Looks pretty solid. There's only 2 guys that I don't know.
Team Finland should get a decent team too if no one get's injured.
What's up with USA? they have a 40-year old defence...

Kind of odd picks for Canada are Regehr and Bertuzzi. I know they want to have some solid defensive defensemen in there too, but I would think out of the entire country they could find someone better than Regehr. So why the hell is McCabe, who is having an amazing year, on the reserves?!? If they wanted to stick with a defensive minded guy like Regehr then they could still drop Redden in favor of McCabe.
As for Bertuzzi, he has been less than stellar this year and I think there could have been some better guys named. I know he has a mean streak and can get the job done, but he is too streaky and you don't want that in a tournament, you want skill you can count on.
I would have picked Staal to be in there, whether he replaced Bertuzzi or even better yet, Ryan Smyth.

Now for the big news, which was somehow skipped over by our excited Canadian brethren:
TEAM USA ROSTER!!!
Goalies
Rick DiPietro, Islanders;
Robert Esche, Flyers;
John Grahame, Lightning
Defensemen
Chris Chelios, Red Wings;
Derian Hatcher, Flyers;
Jordan Leopold, Flames;
John-Michael Liles, Avalanche;
Aaron Miller, Kings;
Brian Rafalski, Devils;
Mathieu Schneider, Red Wings
Forwards
Jason Blake, Islanders;
Erik Cole, Hurricanes;
Craig Conroy, Kings;
Chris Drury, Sabres;
Brian Gionta, Devils;
Scott Gomez, Devils;
Bill Guerin, Stars;
Mike Knuble, Flyers;
Mike Modano, Stars;
Mark Parrish, Islanders;
Brian Rolston, Wild;
Keith Tkachuk, Blues;
Doug Weight, Blues
Why they need Chelios there? Don't ask me, there is no way that he is the most effective person to put there when we are talking a 200x100 sized rink. A 44 year old man does not have the speed and energy to keep up with the best hockey players from around the world.
Overall I feel real good about our forwards, comfortable with our defense, and a bit worried about our goaltending.

Karalahti. I don't know if he's better or not but he doesn't take as much penalties and is one of my favourite players.
Better on PP than Berg. And better in my book. I suppose he can't get healed soon enough....

Yeah, it's more than bad cause Kipper was like the spine of Team Finland in the World Cup.
They announced Kipper will not be playing for Finland. Finland won't do anything without Kipper.
Granted the Bertuzzi issue was a big deal, but Jesus Christ, I think the guy has served his time. He's been charged, paid millions of dollars in fees and fines, apologized numerous times with true regret, and still carries the burden on the incident. The guy has been through enough. I'm pretty sure Sakic has forgiven him, but if anyone with the exception of the Moore family hasn't got over it, they should go fuck themselves.

Huh ??, Lundqvist has been excellent in the Swedish team and he was beyond excellent in the Swedish league. Isn't he like one of the candidates for rookie of the year in the NHL ?.
It's been a good tournament thus far. Sweden started badly, an easy win over Kazakstan and a knockout at the hands of the Russians. Tonights game against Latvia the team finally showed their worth. Sweden will go far.
Props to our eastern European pals Finland for a strong tournment so far and how about Switzerland, good stuff.

That was back in December and lunqvist was only just starting to et on his tear then. I totally agree now, he's looks fucking good. From a rookie race that was originally supposed to be a one man show in Crosby, the competition sure has made it interesting now. Crosby, Ovechkin, Lunqvist, Phaneuf and even Svatos.
To be honest, I'm glad the Swiss won today showing Canada they can't just cruise through the lesser-knowns and pick it up for the big games. In Canada's defence, Gerber was insane having around 50 shots for the shutout, but fuck, beating Czechs then Canada shows it wasn't just a fluke. Nice showing on Swiss' part.

In december Lundqvist was solid. I don't bother to find the article now but he held his goal clean for a huge number of minutes in the play-offs in the Swedish league. I think it was a league record by a large margin. He's also been solid for the Swedish national team for a long time.

I agree, the Swiss has given the tournament a bit of flavor. If it's always about the same teams dominating and the whipping boys being the same, the whole tournment loses it's edge.
Though Switzerland's success is bad for Sweden's group as we will probably face Canada or Czech in the quarter once the smoke clears. No matter how good Switzerland is doing, I would prefer that the Swedish team faced Switzerland rather than Czech or Canada.
Well the Swedish team isn't there yet so no need to worry really, should be a great game against The U.S tomorrow. I can't see them losing this one.

Is the NHL like the NBA and gets the great majority of the elite players from around the world?
Or are there just as many talented players in the European professional hockey leagues?
Question:

I don't know squat about the NBA. The NHL is where it's at but there's more to it than just that. There are plenty of highly talented players in the European leagues. For example, Russia, Sweden etc. has several domestic players in the olympics that were selected before Swedish/Russian NHL players but the greatest stars such as Forsberg, Sundin, Afinogenov, Kovalchuk are playing in the NHL.
edit: I guess I didn't really answer the question. The answer to your question is no, the European professional hockey leagues doesn't have as many good players as the ones going to the NHL but they aren't suffering from a serious "skill-drain" as is the case for smaller nations in club football (soccer).

Sweden vs. Canada in the womens final tomorrow, shouldn't be too exciting. Well they (Swedish team) got a silver medal so they've done good anyways.
Disappointing thus far in Canada's outings. There's gonna have to be some serious changes if Canada wants to be a medal contender and that's all there is to it. Pronger has been awful and I can say the only player that looks to be productive is Shane Doan who funny enough is considered the 13th forward.

I love the state of panic the CBC broadcasters are in. A few losses is good for Canada and our inflated ego. the round robin games DONT go to a tiebreaker. at the end of 60 minutes. that's it. no 5 min sudden death no nothing.
ONLY in the elimination rounds which start tomorrow I believe with the 4 top teams from group a and group b do you have shootouts after regulation.

Well, I think that Modin missed his chance on purpose.
Because they lost, they play against Switzerland... It all makes sense. The game itself looked a bit stupid though..
Anyway, most of the games have been pretty good. I'm looking forward to the semifinals.
Yeah it wasn't a fun game to watch. I don't think the team should have wen't full-force, they should've saved their strengths for tomorrows game but they didn't make any attempts to win the match. They just showed up for 60 mins and that was it, hardly broke a sweat.
I think the whole structure of the olympics has to change. Slovakia was undefeated and they get to face the Czechs and BAM, goodnight.
Let the speculation begin, Canada. There are gonna be a ton of arguments why Canada didn't do well (gambling fiasco, no Crosby, etc..), but it all boils down simply to Canada was not the best team there.
Plain and simple, we shit the bed.

Why don't we just blame this on Bertuzzi. It's easier that way.

Dude, c'mon. It's curling. It matters.
If Uusipaavalniemi and Chuck Norris would stare each other... Chuck Norris would die.

The "Tuzz" still pwns, despite all the talk. It was a shitty performance all around, but Shane Doan still remains the man.

And once again I won't be able to watch any hockey today. If I rush home after work I should be able to get the end of the 2nd game today. The hockey schedule blows :(

Got to see the last period of Swe/Cze during lunch :)
Sweden beats the Czech Republic 7-3
Sweden plays winner of Russia/Finland in the Gold Medal game Sunday while the Czechs play the loser of that game tomorrow for Bronze
Oh and Evgeni Malkin is suspended for the game against Finland because of a kicking incident at the end of last game.
JAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Sweden is in the final. Going into the semi-finals my prediction for the final was Sweden vs. Russia and Russia gets the gold.
I'm gonna have to change that prediction after todays awesome performance. Finally all the players that are great on paper were great on the rink. Sweden gets the gold, Russia gets the silver. But I sincerely hope we get to meet the Finns in the final. Come on Finland!!.

Swedes could potentially get Gold in Men's hockey and Silver in Women's hockey. That would be pretty impressive

That's mighty kind of you mistah Alfuh, positve reps.
But to be honest, the women hockey means piss. I enjoyed the last period (only one I saw) of Sweden vs. USA. Great game, many chances to score and intense but I will forget it by next month.
edit: "you must spread some reputation around before giving it to Alfuh again". Now that's a shocker, I can't even remember that last one, pwned.

Kinda sucks for us huh ?. Undefeated in the whole Olympic and making Russia their bitch.
Winning an olympic final against Finland is every Swedish hockey fans biggest dream, losing is beyond a nightmare. I'll say my hail marys and hope they pull through.
To be honest, this particular year, I wouldn't feel so extremely bad about losing against the Finns because they've been so impressive and well...... if they win then it's much deserved. Hope Sweden stops their rampage though.

Oh don't worry. If anything is even close to Finnish athletic goals it's being totally fucking dominant unill the final fight.
But that said, our roll has been amazing, totally amaizing. And the finals? How epic can you get, Sweden-Finland.
I'm going to be one drunk cheering mothafuka come sunday.

It's going to be horrific tomorrow... but brilliant, fucking brilliant!
Joy or sorrow... maybe both.

Yeah, the tourny was awesome, but the last goal on the final? Nigga plz.
Plus the fact that our team will not be that stacked anytime soon.
