apparently the pistons weren't the only team stupid enough to waste a first round pick on darko.

I would take a chance with Darko. There is a reason why he was thought as a good enough player to be taken that high. What is he 20 years-old? Not his fault Larry Brown is a racist.

Can you imagine how good the Pistons would be right now if they drafted Carmelo Anthony with their #2 pick that year?

I dunno about that. Adding a great player to a team that already plays great as a team isn't always the best thing.

i'm still not really sure what that reason was. if i remember correctly, he was a garbage time player on some european club.

It's because he is a 7' guy who can put the ball on the floor and shoot. He is and was a prospect, but that doesn't mean he is a bust at 20 years-old. Being that tall and athletic is a god given gift. Sometimes it takes 4-5 years for a guy that young to get use to the NBA and learn how to play basketball. Not everyone is LeBron. I look at guys like Jermaine O'Neal and saw how long it took from him to get to even being a decent pro let alone an all-star. The Pistons just fucked up on drafting if they weren't going to bring him along right. He has the upside of a left handed Dirk if someone teaches him all the right stuff. I would take a chance on him personally.

i totally agree that it's way to early to call him a bust at this point. i just don't think he's worth giving up a first rounder at this point, especially considering orlando will probably have a pretty high pick. he is only 20 so there's still a chance that he'll turn into something pretty good, but at this point he hasn't shown much to suggest that he will. granted, a lot of the blame can be place on his coaches for not playing him, but at the same time one could assume that the reason he hasn't gotten much playing time is because he hasn't given them any reason to play him.

Meh, being that I've had the honor of watching him for the whole two minutes a game he's played for the last 3 years, I think it's time for him to move on. It's possible he could still become something, but not here. The guy is a joke here, seems like he isn't trying anymore (Can't blame him after how Brown treated him), and really can't add much to this team. Wrong team to be selected to really. Seems like he is walking hype and nothing more.

that describes about 1/3rd of the players drafted in the first round over the past few years. Kwame Brown, Nika Tshivikilli(no idea on spelling), etc, etc

Fair enough, but it's the people drafted after him that keep being brought up. Sports talk is basically:

1) Is Joey Harrington coming back?
2) Are they trading Darko?

I think it's a good deal for Darko. He'll be on a smaller market team where he can actually get some minutes and now we'll be able to see if he can play or not. Not to mention, as EG said, he'll have another big guy next to him in Howard that can take some of the pressure off. I don't think it's big shit that Orlando is giving up a #1 for this draft either. It's not a great incoming class of talent. Orlando isn't done making moves either, since they're looking to move Steve Francis. Jesus that trade for McGrady turned into a huge fucking wash for them.

Larry Brown would have kept Wade, Bosh or Carmelo at the end of the bench too. If he gets some burn we will see if we can play. If he sucks on Orlando then he can sign with Utah where foreign players thrive.
