View Full Version : ATTN: wamarage or other highlight makers...

I'm messing around right now with windows movie maker working on my first highlight video but I keep encountering a problem. I'll be splitting clips and dragging them into the timeline and everytime at one point (not always the same point) the program will freeze. It will give me that "encountered an error" bullshit or whatever and then ask me if I wanna send an error report and I'm forced to close it.

Anyone else ever encounter this problem or at least have an idea what might be wrong? (other than the possibility that my computer is fucked from all the nasty porn I've downloaded over the years)

I know nothing about computers but when I downloaded windows movie maker my computer told me I should increase my resolution and I listened to it because it's smarter than me.

After I did this my computer seemed to struggle a little and work harder, could this have anything to do with my problem?

What does the error report say then?

What does the error report say then?

Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Windows Movie Maker. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.

To see what data this error report contains, click here

After I click that it says:

Reporting details
This error report includes: information regarding the condition of Windows Movie Maker when the problem occurred, the operating sysetem version and computer hardware in use, and the IP address of your computer.

Blah, blah, blah.

There is also an "error signature" at the top with a bunch of esoteric letters and numbers that I would never understand.

I know what the ERROR REPORT box says, but what does it say when you actually do "Send error report"? It can be a convinient tool when something like this happens. You will be taken to a webpage where MS will inform you why they pwn you.

I've never actually attempted to send one. :o

I've always just assumed that as soon as you click that button the microsoft aliens begin to read your brain waves to track down your location and anal probe you.

I'll send an error report now and let you know what happens... but just so you know I fully intend to put on my tinfoil hat before I click the "send error report" button.

Hehe, I know what you mean, but the error report is actually pretty harmless. I've read a dissection of the packages sent, and it doesn't really send anything incriminating or personal. It actually IS a useful error tracking tool, but be sure to have the tinfoil properly attached to your head. You can also put tinfoil around your network cable. That way, you'll be 100% safe.

Alright, I sent it and a box popped up with this message:

- Preparing error report

- Connecting to server

- Checking for status of this problem

Error reporting completed.

The only difference is that instead of closing, Windows Movie Maker is still open but seems to be frozen in that loading stage where it shows the hourglass but doesn't ever actually do anything else. Also the only option this box gives me is to close it.

By the way, I owe you reps bigtime as soon as it'll let me give them out again. I feel bad for you, it would probably be easier to teach rocket science to a monkey with down syndrome than it is to teach me how to work my own computer.

what are the video sources? i mean AVI, WMV, etc. this could be causing the problem. you know, codecs and all. i've never used Windows Movie Maker, so i'm just speculating. also, VirtualdubMod can cut/join video files, and works quite well. i've heard that Adobe Audition is a good video editor. i'm sure you could find that pretty easily online.

Crashing all the time just happens with Windows Movie Maker. It's the most unreliable and unstable program this side of Windows 98, so much so, that it's barely usable.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I'm far too drunk to make any sense of it at the moment but I'll be sure to look into this in the morning.

go download one of these programs.

avid/pinnacle liquid
adobe premiere (6.5 to pro2) any of those will suffice for you.

vegas video 6

what are the specs for your pc? processor speed? ram etc? sometimes having a shitty comp is your worst enemy.

Thanks gentlemen.

Now that I'm reasonably sober I'm gonna take some advice. I think the first thing I'm gonna do is download adobe premiere or something of that nature and see if I have any better luck with that.

And dyno, honest to god I know absolutely nothing about computers other than how to log onto BK, listen to music, and find copious amounts of pornography. I have no idea what the specs are on this thing but I'm pretty sure it's a piece of shit.
