Up and Coming heavyweight Calvin Brock, who sports an undefeated mark of 24-0(20 KO's) faces his sternest test yet on April 23rd as he takes on perennial top 10 heavyweight Jameel "Big Time" Mccline, who last fought in a close Split decision loss to Chris Byrd for the IBF belt in November. Brock has thoughts on Mccline as well as some unusual training methods he uses here

This fight is just one of several reasons to order the ESPN PPV on April 23rd which includes a potential FOTY candidate in 130lb WBA Champ Juan Diaz taking on Ebo Elder as well as Kermit Cintron challenging Antonio Margarito for the WBO Welterweight crown and the return to action of Sugar Shane Mosely

All four fights should be nice. I dont necessarily agree with Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s prediction about Ebo Elder beating Diaz, but I'm excited about the fight.

Something very cool being done by ESPN. For the same price as the PPV you can get the webcast of the card and it is avaliable on demand until April 30th

I admire Brock for wanting to take a step up with his level of competition and get himself in the mix at heavyweight...but choosing McCline for an opponent at this point might be skipping a rung or two on the ladder that he should probably have stepped on. Going from Etienne (who's an exciting boxer with great combinations and high punch outputs, but who can be hurt by any shot coming back at him) to Jameel is not the best idea that Calvin and his people could have thought of.
We're going to find out for sure what Brock is made of, and he might well beat McCline (who knows, right?). I'm thinking, though, that this fight is too soon for him, and Jameel will put him on his back. I hope I'm wrong, though.

I know what youre saying and I agree. I like both guys but McCline has seen it all and Brock is a little green to be considered the favorite in this. I think Brock has to start fast and keep the pressure on and outwork Jameel after round 5 when Jameel usually slows down. This would be a big win for either guy, I consider McCline a gatekeeper for the HWs. If you can beat him you are ready for the top guys and if you lose it doesnt mean you arent good, but you will need to get more experience and come back stronger.

I saw Calvin here in Charlotte at the NC golden gloves about a year and a half ago and he looked to be about 6', 210 pounds to me. He looks very athletic in person and is not only intelligent but personable; very approachable. He was also a good wrestler in high school according to guys who knew him then.
My esteem of McCline had really fallen when he fought Klitschko with that panicky expression and jittery demeanor but since then he's regained most of it with his efforts late in the bouts I've witnessed. He isn't mailing it in and is instead goin for it when he's pushed. He lost to his bud, Byrd and literally seized the victory against another smaller fighter ... Bostice? when he coulda just as easily said, "fuck it". Even though he's pretty light punching for his size I just won't be surprised if he pulls out a KO ala that fucker who KTFO of Sefo when they brought him in to lose despite a very good record at the time.
That guy kept saying into the mike, " I ain't no steppin stone!" and I fully expect McCline to be hollering the same shit or something very similar if he records a KO against Brock.
Tam has been keen on Brock for at least 2 years now but despite him being my home boy I just don't share his confidence. I guess I still have that image of him impotently getting battered in the Olympics by that fat Italian dude.

McCline/Brock should be interesting to say the least. Brock won't be able to use his jab effectivelly in my opinion, and is going to have to counterpunch when McCline misses his wild combinations. Is Brock hard-hitting enough to stop McCline? Yeah, I think so, but the same can't be said of McCline unless he lands multiple bombs. I still say that McCline is too much early, and stops Brock by referee stoppage due to cuts around the sixth.

First of all, Tauvington rules it and it's great to see you here.
Secondly, I don't see Brock surviving this fight in a conscious state. No way, no how.

Thanks, Necro, but where's my rep? :D

I'm not all that confident in Brock's defensive abilities, but I'm also not confident that McCline won't completely back off once he's nailed a few times. Brock is the more skilled of the two and perfectly capable of countering McCline.

I think experience is going to be the difference here. Even in his most timid of times, McCline is still going to be the biggest, strongest, most experienced, most successful, and most skilled boxer that Brock has been exposed to.
And if he comes out like he did against Llewellyn? Get the body bags out.
Of course, Brock could have a chin like Hagler and Toney and make me look like a fool, couldn't he?

Experience is touchy becaus eof the difference in amateur background. McCline also doesn't fight like an experienced fighter. Brock is cruder than he should be. I see great skilles but they are a little raw. McCline needs to do his thing and comes out punching. HE also needs to press forward when he gets tagged.

I think Brock has skill also but I dont know if it is enough to outbox McCline. Also Jameel should have no trouble getting through Brocks defense but is he going to be agressive enough and does he have enough power to get Brock out of there. Im leaning towards Jameel by a close decision.
