Haynes makes it to Ultimate finale

Medford mixed martial artist Josh Haynes has advanced to the final of The Ultimate Fighter 3 in the light heavyweight division.
Haynes, who graduated from Grants Pass High and attended Southern Oregon University, will face Michael Bisping on Saturday at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The fight will be televised at 9 p.m. on Spike TV (Ch. 40), and will be preceded by a 12-hour marathon featuring all 12 episodes from The Ultimate Fighter 3 season.

At stake is a multi-year, six-figure contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Also advancing to the finals are middleweights Kendall Grove and Ed Herman.

Haynes, who has been trained on the show by UFC standout Tito Ortiz, defeated Tait Fletcher in a controversial decision in his first bout. In the semifinals, the 28-year-old Haynes defeated Jesse Forbes.

The Oregon native trains with Team Quest and UFC fighters Nate Quarry and Randy Couture in Portland. Haynes started fighting at 330 pounds, and has dropped over 100 pounds to fight at 215.

Bisping is from Liverpool, England, and is a fellow member of Team Ortiz. He scored a TKO on a referee?s stoppage in his first bout over Team Shamrock?s Kristian Rothaermel, and defeated countryman Ross Pointon to advance to the finals.
