It was posted on the MMA Weekly forum that the final show received a rating of 1.9. It doesn't suprise me since many of us had bunch of guys at one place to watch it.

1.9 is still good though. they did a fine job for the first season. now lets see if PPV buys bump up, to see if the show was truly a success.

Damn, I thought the finale was gonna blow all the other episodes out of the water as far as ratings were concerned.

I am a bit surprised at how low the ratings were.

This is low and doesn't even beat the Leben - Koscheck build up show does it?

1.9 is low when considering this is a finale, but as mentioned, lots of people watched this in a public social setting (sports bar maybe) or invited people over. I'm sure a lot more people tuned in for the finale than what the ratings show.

i know i went to a friends house for a kickback party while we watched. we had 9 people there. so that very well could be why. like i said, lets see how the PPV buys are to judge how successful the show was. also remember it was live on a saturday night. people go out and party on saturday nights.

Do we know the PPV buys from UFC 51? I can't remember reading about it.

Dana said he usually doesn't release PPV buys to the public. That doesn't mean it wasn't leaked, though. I'm too lazy to google it.

The big thing was that it was on Saturday night. No casual fan watched TV on Saturday night. Also no passed out drunk WWE fans just left their TV on like they do on Mondays.

It is public record. But I am too lazy to check.

ouch, this is hard to swallow - Dana and Spike were expecting a 6... which admittedly was wishful thinking but still.

if they wanted a 6 they should have picked a better time than Saturday night. people go GET DRUNK on saturday nights. their looking for beer, fun, sex, food, and sex on saturday nights. not for UFC fights.

I thought that they had wanted a 3 and the others speculated at a 6?

Yep, this is exactly what I was thinking. Programs on Weekday evenings almost always have higher viewer ratings than on weekends--with the exception of maybe NFL Sundays.

They did say in an article I read that while the rating was lower more people were watching this episode. 2.6 million, I think. They attributed this to "Ultimate Fighter watching parties"

SOme tool from Spike had made the statement about a six but both Zuffa and Spike retracted that statement. They were looking for a 3 but didn't account for the fact that a lot of people watched it in groups. At least that's what incredibly long article said on mmaweekly today.

Do you happen to know how they go about accurately figuring this out? The ratings I understand, but how can they gauge which viewers were watching it with other people, and which ones were watching it alone?

Check out mmaweekly.com today and it gives a complete breakdown on how they figure that out.

the homes that have the Nielsen boxes are supposed to have the ability to set how many viewers are watching at their home, so it is normally set at 1, but if you have 5 friends over to watch you are able to change it to 6. Ratings only account for # of TV sets tuned in.

thats how it works, Oliver. my uncle has a nielson box. i made him tune in for 10 mins and set it to the number of people in his family. he actually ended up watching the whole thing.

Have you asked him how Tivo effects it?

no because he doesnt have tivo and neither do i.

Tivo isn't what you want anyway. A DVR is better and it is free. And it won't track what you watch like Tivo does.

1.9 seems respectable for cable tv especially on a Saturday night.
