From http://www.insidefighting.com:

Word out of Team Extreme is that Travis Wiuff's status for UFC 53 is in doubt. Apparently, he initially failed an eye examination in Nevada, and then passed a re-test out of state. Nevada required he be re-tested in Nevada on Thursday morning. If he fails, he cannot fight.

Also, www.fightsport.com is reporting that Baroni has been contacted as a possible replacement. Baroni on very short notice and moving up a weight class against a top 10 LHW? Yeah, he has a shot ;)

Edit: Nevermind, it is back on after he passed the eye exam!

I could deal with Babalu kicking the shit out of Phil Baloni

Babalu is the kid. I pick him over Wiuff or Baroni.

Damn, I wanted to see Wiuff down at 205. I hope they find someone to replace him if he can't fight. I still would like to see Babalu fight.

Here, here.

Props to Phil if he does take the fight. Even if he loses I don't think it would hurt his stock w/ the UFC as long as he doesn't get creamed in the first 2 mins.

I'd rather see Griffin in there than Bonnar. He almost fought Babalu @ IFC Global Domination (if it wasn't for that damn high kick from Horn  ).

exactly. Griffin vs Babalu would be the one just because of the IFC tourney. problem though, i dont think he has had enough time to recover. isnt there a period of time you have to wait after fighting in vegas? if Babalu fights Baroni im going to be very dissapointed, because there is no point to have that fight. no impact in the LHW division, Baroni is smaller, and Babalu just outclasses him skillwise. that fight would be a murder.

There's no way either one of those guys will be cleared because of those cuts. If they sustained no injuries they would be cleared - I think.
For Instance, I think Swick is probably okay to get in there again. But, I doubt Zuffa would put someone back into the octagon on less than a week's rest.

Its not Zuffa so much as the NSAC

Also, is there any update on Wiuff? He was supposed to get re-tested this morning

Some people have been mentioning Horn as a possible replacement (just rumors and maybe a little wishful thinking). That would be sweet. If I knew for sure Horn was going to be Wuiff's replacement I'd be hoping Wiuff failed his test. No disrespect to Wiuff (he's nails), but Horn's retun to the UFC has been a long time coming.

And who wouldn't want to watch a rematch between Horn/Babalu after their fight in the IFC tourney.

Shit, nevermind. Mmaweekly is reporting Wuiff passed his test and is a go to fight.

thats good news. both these guys can have an impact in the depleated LHW division, so this fight needed to happen.

I also think there are stipulations for losers. They have to wait a mandatory period beofre fighting again.

I guess Baroni is the only one that could do it. I just want to see Babalu fight in the UFC again. Hopefully Wiuff gets clearance.

I'm sure he'd be up for the task, but I'd have to think that Babalu would be significantly favored to win. I'm wondering, do you think the UFC would let Bonnar get in the cage with Sobral at this point in time? It seems like they have a decent amount of time/money invested in Stephan (plus, after that war with Griffin on national TV, his marketability is probably quite high), and I'm not sure if they'd want to put him in with a guy who was not only likely to beat him, but make him look bad. I say this because Babalu's wrestling skills are rather strong. I think he'd probably get Stephan to the mat, and I don't imagine that Bonnar would be able to catch him with an armbar from the guard. I'd expect Sobral to keep him on the ground for reasonably long periods of time over the 3 rounds, make him frustrated, work some moderately-paced GNP while they grappled, and take the JD.

I could very well be wrong, but if there's a chance that ZUFFA feels the same way, I doubt they would be okay with Bonnar taking the fight.
