Trigg is only an ass if the ref tries to stop it and Trigg keeps punching him. If the ref doesn't step in, then Trigg shouldn't stop.

That shot wasn't an obvious low shot. Trigg didn't do anything wrong. From his point of view I'm sure he felt like he hurt him with a knee to the body and then followed up on it. Mario did show a great deal of incompetence, he was totally indecisive, wanted to jump in and stop it, but by then too much had happened in his mind and just let it go, instead.

Yup, ref mistake, not Trigg's. As you say, Trigg probably didn't even realise where the knee connected so he kept going. Ref should definitely have stopped it though.
