Excellent striker and grappler.

Involved in a somewhat shady situation at the Kuatii MMA competition (Shidokan-Jitsu Warriors War or something like that) in 2001, where Menne won a controversial decsion over him.

Got involved in an argument with Arona at ADCC over a match, and reportedly slapped him. The Sheik was a huge brazillian backer, and Arona was one of his head trainers at the time, and Barkalaev was jailed for a time.

Has apparantly not fought or been heard from since.

We were having a general conversation and someone made the comment that Kerr and Belfort were two names of guys who never reached their full potential. Barkalaev's name came up, and the discussion started that no one had heard anything of him since his jail time.
