View Full Version : Rampage's corner in the wrong? *spoiler alert*
got this from Boobs at kakutougi.info. brings up some interesting points id like to discuss with yall
I thought it was their duty to protect their fighter.
Watching the fight about 90 seconds in Rampage grabs his chest after a knee....from their things go down and about 2 minutes later while being hit he yells clearly to his corner "its broken" to which we hear "you gotta fucking fight man, pull your head out"
The next flurry we have Rampage clearly trying to protect his ribs from the knees rather than his head and we can hear more abuse being screamed at him. They get a break and he calls to his corner that his ribs are broken, and he was right near his corner. We hear more screaming from them followed by "unload that fucking right...you are there to fight god dammit" or something similar.
After it ends and Rampage has clearly given up....he lays on the ground and his team doesn`t come to see if he is OK. In fact, I believe one of the other team members are the first to check him out. Next scene is Oyama abusing shit out of him again, while he is nursing a swelling chest and having trouble breathing.
Well, I don`t know about you guys bu with a team like that in my corner I`m not sure I`d be confident they would be doing the right thing by me. I`ve been up close to a couple of teams before and never seen (heard) such disreguard for their own fighters health before.
Perhaps rampage has put Oyama through a bit of a rollercoaster ride with his changes and fasts and shit before, but still.....
Or perhaps it is after midnight, I`m tired, and seeing too much in things. But I think Oyama`s team came off as pretty arrogant tonight.
i knew his corner should have thrown in the towel. his ribs were broken 90 sec into the fight and his corner MADE him fight. Rampage wasnt going to tap, and he shouldnt have. he was YELLING that his ribs were broken. id say PEACE to Team Oyama if i was Rampage. there is plenty of worthy teams that would be happy to have Rampage train with them.
Discuss.

I think the title of the thread is a spoiler in itself ... It implies something happened to Rampage doesn't it? Maybe it's just me ..
Back on topic, it definitely sounds like the corner messed up on this one, they should've thrown the towel if this is the case. Doesn't matter how much you're paid to fight, if your ribs break, you're going to struggle, and by the sound of it, he struggled a lot.

Oyama hasn't seen Rocky 4 obviously
i thought the title could imply anything from stupidity to bad sportsmanship so i left it how it is.
The team was definetly in the wrong though. why do you make your fighter go thru 2 minutes of Shogun with broken ribs? its hard enough to go 2 minutes with the man healthy. that would be the last with that team if i was him. he can find a good home where people are gonna care about his health.

I agree, on both accounts :)
Can't believe why they would let him go through this just because "he's there to fight".. Such an injury if severe enough is a fight stopper, just like a cut.
exactly. and broken ribs is a big deal. you cant do nothin bout them fuckers but take the pain and wait for them to heal. breaking the ribs basically takes away most of your strength. you take rampage's strength away and IMO he loses most of what makes him a good fighter. his strength gets him out of fucked up positions and makes for good offensive slams for him. cant do any of that busted up in the ribs.

I want Rampage to go to Chute Box and train under Wandy and the Rua Brothers. I know that Wandy is clode to God and it seems far fetched.....but it's a good idea to learn from those who beat you as well.

Probably nobody believed him at first ...
he said it not once, but twice to his corner in that 2 minutes he got pummeled. his ribs hurt so much he wasnt even defending his head. that isnt right.
I wish someone would upload this fight...

That fight made me feel bad for Rampage. He took a beating, and you could see him trying to hold and defend his ribs.

I knew something hardcore happened when he looked at them and said something.. Bad luck for the rage.

Yeah, that sucked. He put forth almost no offense and obviously didn't want to be in the ring after that. I'm actually impressed that he was able to take so much unanswered abuse from a guy like Shogun. He'll be back.

Just watched the fight, goddamn, that didn't look too good. He was clearly in pain for a while and took a lot of unnecessary punishment.

rampage needs to go train with Bas full time
and then go down to Texas with Sakisan for true thai training

I was saying that right after he took that knee. A broken rib being hit could lead to a punctured lung. Oyama and the rest of his corner should be ashamed. He needs to get away from those guys. As mentioned above Bas would be a natural.
Also, I don't think I could take orders from a guy that so fat and out of shape that he can't kick above the belt. Fuck Oyama. It takes more than holding pads and yelling to make a champion fighter.

are people forgetting that RUA broke Rampage's ribs? Oyama didn't. Rampage didn't. Rua did. As far as Oyama's decision, Rampage never ASKED for the fight to be stopped. He was telling them what was up. Fact is, Oyama was trying to motivate his fighter anyway he could - if Rampage came back and slammed Rua to death would we even be mentionning Oyama? No. Bottom line, he AND Rampage had alot on the line, and it didn't go on much longer than that regardless - if it did, then we probably would have seen the towel.
Rampage COULD have stopped the fight himself.
Oyama PROBABLY would have stopped it after the round.
Rua DID stop it. With kicks to the dome.
Rampage didn't lose BECAUSE he had broken ribs.
Rampage lost BECAUSE Rua broke his ribs, his will and his face.
Do I think it's time for Rampage to switch up his training?
Sure.
Do I think Oyama's the devil? No.

I don't think anyone here is sugesting that Rua wasn't the one that broke the ribs. This isn't SD. Rua won that fight when he landed that knee, everything else was unecessary punishment that Rampage took. A fighter is a fighter. No way was Rampage quitting. Anyone who has seen his fight with Eastman knows this for a fact. Oyama knows his guy won't quit. Therefore, It is his responsibility to throw in the towel no matter how much he wants his guy to win. That is part of a good cornerman's job.

I agree, and that's what I'm saying as well - I just don't think there was much time to do so. When they broke from the clinch and he yelled at his corner, it ended shortly after that. Oyama would have clearly seen in the round break or in the next lul in the action that his fighter was in no shape to continue.
My point is it's easy for us to judge - but bottom line only Rampage and C.O. know what was going on. Hell, maybe Rampage even forbade Oyama from interfering with his fights - we don't know.
