Pacific Rim Lightweight Title is on the line and Fujimiya says he' s learned from his mistakes

Tenkei Fujimiya has been given a chance at redemption. Kazuhiro Sakamoto, President of Shooto's largest promoter, Sustain, announced that Fujimiya would get another chance at the Lightweight Pacific Rim Championship on their February show dubbed 'BACK TO OUR ROOTS'. He will rematch Akitoshi Tamura for the strap, an opponent whom Fujimiya defeated in May this year on the 'Devilock' PPV via knockout. Tamura, to his merit however, has defeated credible opponents since the loss in Sakae Kasuya and 2006 Shooto Lightweight Rookie Champion 'Wicky' Akiyo Nishiura.

All eyes, however, will be on Fujimiya. He will be coming into the bout after a very interesting draw with Wajyutsu Keisyukai's Katsuya Toida that saw Toida virtually neutralize Fujimiya's reknowned stand-up and 'ground n' pound' with a strategy which consisted of precisely timed takedowns, Imanari-esque legock slides, and an active guard. Fujimiya stated at the press conference today that he'd learned from his mistakes in the Toida bout and would be mentally stronger against Tamura with the title on the line. A talented grappler such as Tamura may look at Toida's November performance for inspiration.

Ganjo Tentsuku will also be facing a rematch with a draw marking his last outing. Tentsuku drew Takashi Nakakura on Shooto's 'Champion's Carnival' event in October in a bout where Tentsuku simply could not get sustain decisive dominance over Nakakura's defensive approach. Tentsuku's opponent will Yusuke Endo, whom Tentsuku defeated in December of last year after a grueling three-round affair which saw Tentsuku's top control secure him a decision. Endo has since initiated a four-win streak that includes his quick submission victory over Clayton Guida and his dominance of Muay Thai proponent Jin Kazeta. With an improved guard and better hands, Endo may prove to be more than enough for Tentsuku this time around.

The final announced bout will occur between 2005 Shooto Welterweight Rookie Champion Mizuto Hirota and former Pacific Rim Welterweight contender Kenichiro Togashi. Hirota is undefeated in his Mixed Martial Arts career, having dominated every opponent he's faced since his career kicked off in February of last year with a relentless assault of punches and effective 'ground n' pound'. Hirota's hard-nosed antics and overall toughness may find their match in Togashi's disciplined hands and adequate knowledge of submissions which gave both Joachim Hansen and Mitsuhiro Ishida runs for their money.
