It'd take me to 4! (or 5 if picking the losing fighter to win in the 3rd round of a judges decision for the other fighter gets you a point ) ....not going to win this one I think :(

I think that's the new way they're trying out, but I'm not 100% on that. I usually don't even look at my results so that I can fool myself into thinking I won, but my last win has me fooling myself in a new, more confident manner :o

Yes he should have! Although that's mainly because I had him picked to win, having not seen the fight just yet.

I was wondering that too. I think logically it shouldn't be counted. If you predicted Crocop to beat Randleman by first round KO by strikes, I don't think it'd make much sense to give you points for the super unlikely Randleman KO by strikes since that was the furthest thing from your mind when making that prediction.

Predicting a decision, on the other hand, deserves a bit of merit. No matter who wins, the fact that you predicted that it would go the distance means you are aware of either fighters ability or inability to finish a fight or toughness.

Still, I don't like the idea of points without predicting the winner. The winner should be the most important with the rest being just bonus.

Anyone know what's going to happen with the Beauparlant fight since a substitute fought? Void the fight?

Scorpions are one of the new teams.

Hi guys

Few things: first and foremost CARLOS NEWTON GOT SCREWED

This can be confirmed by anyone that was there. He got the best of the stand up and got repeated takedowns. In the post fight interview Renzo was asked what he thought of the decision and his words were "It was a bad decision by the judges. I did not win that fight. Carlos won"

Whitehead winning made me wish that the judging was Pride based instead of round based. Whitehead would drive in for a takedown and just stall on the ropes. He did get a few takedowns which he did nothing with. He did that for two rounds and was cut badly on the bridge of his nose and his forehead in the first.

The first round was definitely Mike. The second could have gone either way. The third was Krzysztof all the way. Mike was actually so tired that when he missed a takedown he fell through the ropes and just stayed down on his hands and knees and the ref gave him protection and the time to get back up. It was pathetic. Plus I talked to Krzysztof before the event and he was really cool and I wanted him to win :(

Another fight that stood out was Brent Beauparlant and Andre Gusmao. Andre was younger, faster, stronger and more technically proficient, but everyone in the crowd wanted Brent and his bald spot to win. He ate so many punches and just kept getting up and swinging. Everyone was cheering him on and he got a big ovation at the end of the fight.

Rothwell put on an excellent fight. He worked his jab and right uppercut, then started throwing some knees, then threw a HUGE right high kick that crumpled Cole into the ropes.

Anyway this is all ramblings as I remember them, but I still don't want to talk about all the fights or I'll have nothing left for the write up!

Oh and Canario, whoever said that West should have won his fight must really hate Erik Owings because he completely dominated the fight from start to finish. West had an active guard and was able to keep moving his hips to keep guard or regain guard when he lost it, but he was thoroughly controlled and dominated.

Did I mention Carlos Newton got screwed?

So will we give 'bonus' points (just like 10 or so, not too much) to those who picked Newton by decision?? I would've guessed split decision as well, if that helps ....please! :D and thanks for the info, sounds like it was a good time, I still haven't been to a live fight yet :( seeing as how I'm in SW Missouri and all it's not exactly a Mecca for sporting events....especially fights.

I just got back from CT and I second everything you wrote.

NEWTON WAS SCREWED! Most of the fans left the arena before the decision was announced, so there may be quite a few suprised fans when they read the results. I even got mad when I saw everyone leaving and said to my buddy, "You know, the judges could say Renzo won and none of these people would ever know". I wish I was wrong. The crowd was definately supporting Renzo at the beginning, but there were even a few "Gracie sucks" chants before the results were announced; he didn't suck, but he didn't win either. Even Renzo was pointing at Newton as the winner before the results were announced.

Concerning Whitehead, it could have gone either way. Whitehead definately won the first round and it was in that round that he took the damage to his face. The second round could have gone either way, but I had Whitehead winning it. The 3rd definately went to Soszynski and if there was a 4th, Whitehead would have gone down, but there wasn't of course. Stupid boo-ing fans that don't understand the rules....

Also, the Ellenberger fight was pretty good. It took place at 7:15 (15 minutes before the 7:30 show start time). Jake put a whoopin' on Uker and for the few fans who actually saw it, it was a good start.

ashrael
12-30-2006, 07:09 PM
Also, the Schultz vs. Palaszewski fight was crazy. Schultz was laying a whoopin' on Bart and the only way he could win was a knockout in the 3rd round, which is what he got. Palaszewski caught him with a great right hook (iirc) that instantly dropped him and after he hit the canvas unconsious, Bart hit him with two more shots straight to the jaw. Afterwards, as a precaution, Schultz was removed on a backboard but was in good spirits and was raising his hands and waving and giving the crowd a thumbs up. Both fighters deserve a lot of respect after that fight.

One other thing, between the interleague and team fights, some pop chick performed 2 songs. I had never heard of her before (she was named Jonie Kay or something like that). A better description or her was that she was a great belly dancer that also had a decent voice. I don't know what pop and MMA have in common, but I guess no one complained when was gyrating on stage and in the ring.

Alfuh
12-30-2006, 07:45 PM
Ahhh that's when the Ellenburger / Uker fight took place. I saw results for that and had no idea what was going on. I was in the prefight press conference then and missed it.

I saw that Jodi K chick backstage with her dancers getting ready and after seeing her dance and do her thing I went to find her after the show to try and get some pics with her, but she was gone already :( But yeah, totally wrong crowd for a 20something pop "star" good thing she was hot as hell

One other interesting thing from the show...the national anthem was sung by Miss Maine. This event has come a long way since the first IFL that I attended in Atlantic City.

Bas, Ian Freeman, and Don Frye were signing autographs before the show, which was nice. Autograph signings should be required at all events ;)

I didn't recognize Freeman at first either. I was among the first 10 or so into the arena and I saw Freeman hanging around the autograph table and I thought he was a fan. It was actually Bas who said, "Hey this guys, this is Ian Freeman. Don't make him sit here by himself."

Yeah, we do need to meet up some time. When I go to events by myself I go to weigh-ins and hang around well before fights. The two IFLs I went with friends (who aren't as crazy about standing around as I am) and Friday I didn't get there until 10 minutes before the doors opened. We will have to meet up next time :)

First 10 or so eh? I just walked in 40 minutes before the doors opened and quickly flashed my media pass and walked off like I belonged there. Then I proceeded to snoop around and snagged a couple good interviews which will be up in the coming days ...

Oh and Krzysztof did lose to Whitehead. I hate to admit it, but Whitehead did BARELY enough to win the first 2 rounds, even if he was dead on his feet in the third. I really wanted Krzysztof to win too :(
