at the Meca of baseball, Yankee Stadium, and A-Rod has three homeruns of Bartolo Colon... a two run, three run, and grand-slam, for a total of 9 RBIs...in the fourth fucking inning!!!! Holeeeeeee smokes!!!

yeah, i remembered there was a game on and i turned it to that channel seconds before the grand slam. i fucking hate the yankees, but i'm still kinda rooting for him to break some all time records, if for no other reason than the fact that someday i'll be able to brag to my grandkids that i saw the game where the greatest player of all time broke the single game home run and rbi records.

I love the yankees, but still need to be sold on A-Rod as a Yankee, and this went a long way to convincing me... he still isn't anywhere near the caliber of player that Derek Jeter is, but then again, who is?

on a slightly related and completely shitty note, this is going to anally rape me on the fantasy baseball league.

I was hoping he'd break the rbi record. When a guy's playing that well you just want him to keep it going, even if he's playing for the Yankees.

get the fuck out. they're good, and on paper maybe even better than Jeter, but none of them can do all the things that Jeter can, and oddly enough, i don't even see one ring on their fingers, let alone four. Derek Jeter will go down in history as the greatest shortstop aof all time, mark my words.

Most of the guys you are naming don't believe in defense.

Ramirez? Get the fuck out of here, that butcher dropped two fly balls just last week. And have you seen him hit a cut-off man? There's a lot more to baseball than putting up pretty numbers.

the only other guy mentioned who has a knack for big plays on both sides of the diamond is Edmonds, but all the same, he isn't the player that Jeter is.

that's because Jeter won those 4 rings on his own....it has nothing to do with Steinbrenner's endless payroll, right?

he helped yes, didn't Jim Leyritz help the Yankee's win a world series? didn't Adam Boone get the Yankee's to the world series a few years back?

everybody on that yankee's team did what was needed to get where they were going. jeter did his part, i'll give him credit, but to say that there's nobody better than him? wow.

alright, let's put it to a situation: you need your player to make one play to win, but you don't know what play you will need... it could be a spectacular catch, a hit saving stop to kill a rally, a relay throw to home plate to save your lead, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, a home run, etc... remember it could be any kind of play, you don't know what type of play it will be... who would you pick to make that one play, confident that he could do it no matter what it was. Who would you choose?

GR,

not backpedalling here, but I think Jeter is a fantastic all around player. he's the best defensive SS in the AL and is an excellent hitter to have at the top of any order

no if, and's, or but's about that

I know, I just love to talk baseball... it is easily the most fun sport to talk/argue about, aside from maybe hockey, when they actualy play. If I see a tree stump wearing a baseball hat, you can bank on me stopping to talk to it.

robert horry had an incredible knack for making big plays as well, but i wouldn't consider him the greatest basketball player of all time.

(i'd pick eric gagne, btw)

Jeter doesn't just make the big plays, he makes ALL the plays... and i didn't say he was the greatest baseball player of all time, I said he was the greatest SS of all time, and would be my pick to make the clutch, big play/hit in the big games.

Greatest SS is pushing it. hes a good team guy and does come up with his fair share of clutch plays but there are definetly some guys ahead of him in the greatest SS category

don't even try to compare A-Rod to Jeter... the next big play/hit/home run ARod makes will be the first... he's like Palmerio, hundreds of Home-Runs, not a single one of them important. I understand this "Big Play" and "Important Hit" concept is foreign to a dodgers fan for the past couple of years, but you can remember Gibson, right? I know it's been a little while since the Dodgers mattered, but you haven't forgoten Kirk, have you?

so i shouldn't even compare a-rod to jeter, but it's perfectly fine to compare him to palmeiro? thanks for clearing that up.

and clutch doesnt mean everything. bonds doesn't have any rings, so by your logic gibson must be much better than bonds, right?

sure, Gibson helped his team to win, and Bonds, by all accounts, is a terrible teamate, and couldn't throw Sid Bream out from deep short.

winning is the whole point. but at the same time, a players greatness shouldn't be measured solely by how clutch he is or even how many championships he has.

Despite A-Rod's heroics the Angels still took two out three from the Yankees, which is what usually seems to happen when they travel to the Bronx. I think the Angels are the only team with a winning record at Yankee stadium over the past decade.
