Apparently, Ruiz has annonced his retirment following Saturday's UD loss to Toney.

Yeah he is gone. He achieved a lot more than thought possible after the destruction David Tua laid on him back in 96. A lot of folks thought he was done as a name heavyweight after that but he proved the skeptics wrong with his defensive oriented style. I didnt like the way he fought but he did win a lot and best of luck to him in retirement

The end of an era. Sad to say but I will miss his corner more than him. Props to him for holding some belts and going out while he was still competitive.

Ruiz was like the spouse you never got along with, you hate him when he's around but once he's gone you kind of miss him.

Really? I haven't missed him yet. His vertical LnP style didn't endear me to him in the slightest.

Hell, he didn't even stay gone long enough to begin to miss him. At least I didn't!

I bet I'll miss his next defense fo his championship though!
