Ok here it goes.

First off im goddamned proud of this little corner of bloodyknux. there is a nice well schooled group of veterans that knows their fights and arent prickish about sharing the knowledge with those new to the pugilism game. I never thought it would be this good right off and i thank all of you for contributing.

Ok now my main thing, having been around the MMA game now for a couple of years, i still have to say i love boxing first. Why might you ask? Well here it goes. In MMA you have multiple ways to beat your opponents, be it subs, KO's etc,. Multiple fight plans are developed by each guy in order to neutralize the opponenet. While i am a fan of this, i just simply appreciate a good boxing match more. There is nothing i like more than watching two combatants in that squared circle, with only the ref and their gloves seperating them from victory or defeat. yeah it sounds kind of simplistic to say " Oh you just like watching them beat the shit out of each other" but its true. There is strategy involved in boxing as you have to figure out gameplans for southpaws, boxers, punchers, etc but in the end it usually is just down to which guy is going to outpunch the other one. The adrenaline rush of a big fight, when two guys are going toe to toe in the middle of a ring, leaving their hearts, blood, sweat and tears on the apron with the crowd roaring is simply one of the best things i can think of witnessing. My favorite all time fighter is a defensive whiz (Pernell Whitaker), but nothing can bring excitement to me like a good bout between two men who are ready to go to war and leave it all in the ring, be it for a 500 or 5 million dollar purse. A great example of this for boxing newbs is to check out the Gatti/Ward trilogy. I apologize for the rant but i had a lot of thoughts running through my head and just had to get them out. And again thank you guys for making this corner of BK a true KO winner :)

Being of Mexican descent I was raised on boxing. I grew up watching el gran campeon Mexicano Julio Cesar Chavez, Mike Tyson, and even saw some of Sugar Ray Leonard's career. My dad would get together at his friend's house whenever there was a PPV and I got to tag along. I remember his friends all had kids my age (under 10 years old) but none of them would watch the fights' they'd be off playing Nintendo or running around. Not me, I loved watching the fights. Even after I grew up, moved out, and started a family of my own I rarely miss a good fight. My pops and I call each other right before the fights and again once they're over.

Even though I became a huge mma fan growing up (after watching Royce tool fools in the early UFCs) and follow it religiously there's just something about boxing; the excitement, the battle, it's just awesome. I've never been as excited about an mma fight as I've been for a boxing fight. It's especially fun when you're watching it with people who are routing for the other guy. I had the pleasure of watching the Vargas/De La Hoya fight with a bunch of Vargas fans. I'm usually one not to talk shit when my guy is kicking ass. But after hearing all the shit the Vargas fans were talking when he was laying it to DLH in the early goings I talked up a storm after DLH ktfo of Vargas. Ahh, moments like that are fuckin priceless.

And after recent wars that I've seen (Barrera/Morales 3) my love for the sport is just as strong. Anyways, this is getting long so I'll quit talking. Nice thread EL G; reps to you my friend.

got you back bud, And also Chavez i will try to work on this week. I am having trouble thinking of which fights of his to focus on. Maybe Camacho, Haugen, Whitaker, and Randall?

Camacho is a great one because that's the fight that propelled him to super stardom. Haugen was great too cuz he talked so much shit like " All Chavez has beaten is a bunch of Tijuana Taxi Drivers" and the event was huge (held in a packed Estadio Azteca if I remember correctly). Whitaker because IMO it was his first loss and Randall because it was his first official loss.

Don't forget the Meldrick Taylor fight. I thought it was a great stoppage but I'm bias like a motherfucker and didn't want Chavez to lose.
