I'm not familiar with Atch or Hunt. Aren't they super small...like 114 or below? Lima x Osawa should be fun. Akimoto needs to vanish. Everytime I think he's gone...BOOM, he pops again. Tamura lost to Eda in his last outing despite it not being official, I hope he gets crushed because he's favored by Shooto IMO. Urushitani's has skills, but every fight is like a sparring match. I hope Mamoru breaks him. So-so card at this point.

This card looks amazing already! I have told Shooto that I want to be a part of this card. I also asked to be on the Back to our Roots 4 show. However, they told me they could not find an opponent for me :(
So instead, I am keeping myself busy by fighting in the next Shootboxing card on the 28th of this month :) For those who are not familiar with Shootboxing, it is essentially kickboxing with throws, takedowns and standing submissions. No ground at all. Andy Sauwer of K1 Fame comes from Shootboxing. The long pants that he wears are Shootboxing pants and is usually worn by fighters who represent the organization. Should be fun LOL!
Cheers guys!
P.s: I would be more then happy to give Sato a revenge match if he wants ;)

Hi guys!
I find out this Monday if they have an opponent for me. It was orginally supposed to be Fujimiya according to Shooto. Why they never told me this before is beyond me lol. However, Fujimiya suffered a broken hand in his fight against Bao Quach so that won't happen. Anyway, I will post as soon as I find out if I am fighting or not.

They were, but the funny thing was that when he started sweating, his leg hairs started to show through. Looked like he had some white tiger stripe pattern going on there...
In any case, the folks at SB seem to really like him, so we may see him there again in the future, giving us far more opportunities to see him in the SB tights again.

Kenji Osawa- Ranked the #4 Fly weight in SHOOTO with a record of 12-6-1. I translated an interview from the SHOOTO website. He fights Daniel Lima on Sep. 22nd, as one of the main events of in Korakuen Hall.
-- Do you train a lot at RJW? (Keishukai's Real Japanese Wrestling Dojo)
Osawa: I go to lots of places, also Tokyo Honbu (HQ). I get pretty hard training here at RJW, too. A lot of the pros show up here.
--There are really lots of pros at Keishukai, aren't there?
Osawa: There are fighters here that I don't even know! (laugh) I do know the guys who've fought in Shooto. There are lots of really serious fighters. Of course, that doesn't mean others don't work hard.
--Among them, who do you train with the most?
Osawa: I train with guys like Tetsu "Skin-colored" Suzuki a lot. Also "Fight Boss" Hiroyuki Takaya.
-- Now that you mention it, when you corner Tetsu and he comes out dressed like anime characters or other crazy things, do you take volunteer to dress up, too?
Osawa: No way, from the very beginning I resisted all the way! (laugh) But we did tell him, "You oughta do something", so it's not like we could refuse to do it after that. At first we didn't wanna do it, but now we're used to it. Sort of like, "What's it gonna be today?" Just by wearing something, I don't feel too conspicuous.
-- And certainly planning it together gets you fired up?
Osawa: No no no, it's really embarrassing. I hope I can cover up so my face isn't showing. Basically, on the day of the fight, Tetsu doesn't say anything until he gets to the venue. Then when we get there, he says, "Here ya go." He's usually pretty reserved and doesn't say much. To be asked by that kind of guy, well, you can't really refuse. THEN we open up the costumes he gives us, and it's like, whoa, are you serious? It's sometimes hard to move in that stuff, but now I'm used to it.
-- So now let's talk about your past fight in May against Marco Louro. That loss by decision must have been a pretty harsh for you. Looking back on that fight, what do you think?
Osawa: About that fight, I completely went and underestimated Louro. Actually, even when the fight started, I was thinking, "Wow, this guy isn't that great." His posture sucked, and half way through, I started thinking, "I don't want to let his strikes hit me." So from then on, so as to not to get hit, I looked to finish him cleanly with one blow.
--It looked like Louro shied away from your strikes, and stayed at a distance where your strikes couldn't hit him.
Osawa: That's right. He stayed far away out of range to keep me from entering. In my fights up til now, I never worried about the small stuff, but just kept steadily pushing forward. I guess after all, if I think too much unnecessarily while I'm fighting, it's no good.
-- What kinds of things were you thinking?
Osawa: At that time, I was thinking about a good time to throw a counter, like I did in practice. So, I looked at Louro and thought, "Hey, can I hit him with that?" But added to that, I didn't want to be hit even once. So naturally, we stayed at a distance. Louro still didn't try to close. Thinking back now to what was going through my head, there was no way I could counter from that distance. I should stick to doing what I usually do, after all. (laugh) Just fighting how it feels natural is best, I think. Thinking about toppling him with one clean blow isn't really natural. I love a good brawl. If I lose to that, that's just the way it goes. I want to leave everything in the ring, and have no regrets.
-- Usually, do you feel good during your fight preparation?
Osawa: For that fight, I was in superb condition. Even when entering the ring, I was thinking, "Man, I feel great." (laugh) But then when the fight started, I thought, "Huh? Geez, he's far. Well, nothing I can do but quickly bring'em down." Before I knew it, I was out of time. I couldn't get fired up, either. Felt like it was over before it started. Before I even heard the judgment, I was thinking 'Whatever.'
-- Was it painful for you?
Osawa: It was certainly painful, but it wasn't all about Louro. I was extremely disappointed in myself. "So I'm that kind of fighter, huh," I thought. If I had more humility, I think I'd have been more careful.
-- Were you thinking, you'd just manage somehow?
Osawa: Somewhat, yeah. So far, I've been fighting pretty tough opponents. When the name "Louro" came up, I didn't think he was that good. For me, he was probably the least intimidating opponent. When I was told that my next opponent would be Louro, I thought "Ah, how lucky!" (laugh) And then see what happened.
-- Would you say that that was your worst fight?
Osawa: Yes, it was my worst fight. It was horrible. In other fights I lost, I'd at least fought tooth and nail. This is the first time to feel this way. (bitter smile) I didn't bring myself out in the fight, which was something I never dreamed would happen. All in all, it showed lack of humility. If I could, I wish I could bring back all the people who came to watch my fight so I could apologize to them and explain. "Actually, that was all wrong," I'd say. (smile) I have confidence that I could explain enough if I had twenty minutes. (laugh)
-- And in the middle of all this, your rematch with Daniell Lima was put together. You drew with him in November 11th, 2005.
Osawa: My impression of him is that he's a strong fighter. In the middle of the second round I was pushing him, but about that time I started thinking, "Man, this guy isn't falling." That kind of broke my spirit. I hit him and hit him and he just wasn't going down. I hit him but he kept coming forward. In the second half of the fight, it started going at his pace.
-- Watching the fight, I got the impression that you were pushed both mentally and physically.
Osawa: I'd say that's right. But this time I'll fight my way without letting him control the fight. If I follow my instincts, it'll become my kind of battle- a slug-fest.
--Two years has passed since then. Do you think he'll still be hard to deal with?
Osawa: Yeah, probably. Now that I can think clearly, realize he didn't go down, but my punches didn't hit his face, either. Body shots and knees landed, though. There also wasn't enough power behind my punches. Now that I think of it, it makes sense those didn't drop him. Plus that guy's hard to land punches on. But, now I have confidence in my punches, so if I do it right, I know I can beat him. Everyone goes down if you hit their chin or the temple.
--On that note, let's move on. When current Feather Champion Akitoshi Kokazono was supposed to fight Ryouta Matsune, but didn't because of Matsune's injury. Now, it seems like there are no plans for Hokazono's first title defense fight.
Osawa: Hmmm, yeah, how about that?
-- It kind of seems like you're not really into it.
Osawa: Well, whatever happens happens.
--What do you mean?
Osawa: I don't know what those two are thinking, or how long it's gonna take. I'm a little worried about what they're going to do, like if they're going to retire, so me or someone else'll get to fight for the belt. To say it plainly, those guys don't take the belt seriously. I want them to understand just what it means to have it.
-- In the face of this, do you think you'll present yourself as a challenger?
Osawa: No, I don't think so. I fought Hokazono twice and lost both times. I feel odd talking about it like this....but it wouldn't be fun to fight Hokazono anymore. Not at all. About my next fight, though, I feel there's no way I can lose. That's because I'm going to go straight in and pummel him. Even if it becomes a matter of who earns the most points, I still want to do it.
-- When you fought him (Hokazono), did you feel he was very strong?
Osawa: He was good, but not especially strong. In that fight, I kind of flew off the handle and you can see the result. Well, the result being I lost, I guess you'd say.
-- When people talk about it, doesn't that make you want to try again?
Osawa: I wouldn't have a good time. I love to do MMA, but it's not like some game where I have to keep score. If I want a game, I'd go do some other sports. It's a difference in values. I want a fight where will clashes will. Although you could call it a strategy game where you try to avoid risk. Considering all that, that's why my fight with Louro was a rotten experience. (smile) But of course, it's my fault for letting that happen. Recently I think there are more and more fighters who fight for the "record-keeping game." A lot of guys forget why they started fighting. I want to ask them, "Hey, didn't you guys start MMA to become stronger, or what?"
-- You don't care about a rematch? (with Hokazono)
Osawa: Yeah, whatever. Like I said, they don't care about the belt. They're shallow. I want to fight to make myself better now. The fact that I'm thinking that myself means even more. I don't think this isn't the right time for me to aim at the belt. Instead of trying again for the title, I want to try fighting many different opponents. I want to I fight guys who feel the same way about fighting as I do.
-- Are there any opponents you definitely want to fight?
Osawa: A fighter named Koutetsu Okazaki fought before me on one card, and made a great showing. It was almost like a message to me. Does that mean I'll win like that? But of course I was really disappointed. Okazaki fights well, and has a strong heart. He'd be a good fight. Him or Masakatsu Ueda. He's good. Forget people who just want fights they can win. I want to put on a good exciting fight for the fans to enjoy. Things'll become more interesting if more of those kinds of fighters come into my weight division. (feather)
--Thanks for all your thoughts. Do you have any final message for the fans?
To the people who come see my fight, I promise you'll be excited! To the people who haven't decided, I want to say that you definitely should come! I'm not going to lose. There'll also be lots of other great fights you should see! When more and more fans come together, that's what makes MMA'll so thrilling. I'd like to humbly suggest a new way to support yours truly: from September I'll be selling my "Osawa towl." It's almost like a scarf, so you can hold it up over your head and wave it around. It'll be a crazy fight, so please come cheer for me!

Is Sato wins here, does he get to fight for the title? :)
By listening to the announcer when he brings the fighters out, you can pick up their names when they do that, and I'm pretty sure it was Toida versus Tamura, but the third fighter being in the ring was confusing.

I really dug it because Urushitani was really good at not being hit. I also saw it as him picking his shots in between, basically frustrating Mamoru who constantly tried to catch him with his power side.
I thought he did very well, not allowing Mamoru to corner him, disappearing out from under for the first half of the fight every time he closed in to attack, YET he still got his flurry in there, marking the afro up with his punches.
He deserved that win because he frustrated Mamoru throughout the bout while still landing a fair share of punches and body kicks.

Urushitani didn't land anything all that hard on Mamoru, and the few glancing shots that Mamoru hit were of the same value as what Urushitani hit. He did a great job on defense, but I don't believe you can win a fight on defense alone, you have to provide some offense as well, and Urushitani didn't provide enough offense to win the fight.

I've only seen it once, but I thought Osawa won CLEAN. He did A LOT more damage. There were exchanges where Lima landed some of his jungle wild blows, but Osawa outworked him in the clinch with like a dozen knees, and landed A LOT of shots clean on his fast, many combos as well. Lima got him down in the 3rd and just held him down. That's really the only round he may have won.
Phla Les
09-25-2007, 12:28 AM
I watched it again, and I guess it depends on how you see the 1st round.
Round 1: There were a lot of exchanges here. Lima did land a number of big shots that stunned Osawa. Kenji still landed more shots, and like a dozen quality knees that stunned Lima and allowed him to add a number of punches. IMO Osawa did more damage here and outworked him, but it was fairly close.
Round 2: Easily won by Osawa. By now it's fairly evident that Lima has never heard of this Thai Clinch thing before. Osawa landed a huge number of knees, and many solid punches. Through 2 rounds Lima's head received around 20 knees. Lime really did little in this round outside of getting a takedown in the end but then he was just hanging on for dear life.
Round 3: Minor exchange, both guys land a little. Lima ends up getting Kenji on the ground. He's in half guard, he passes to side mount, Kenji give up his back, Lima forces him back to side mount. Kenji gives up his back again. Lima tries to go for reverse kimura...but never really even got anything at all. He lands some love taps throughout the course of the round. Lima wins this round, but again, just keeping Osawa down and doing nothing.
It's closer than I 1st thought, but Osawa still deserved this match IMO. On top of everything, Lima kicked Osawa in the balls, kneed him in the head when he was down, and came out to the music of Kanye West. That latter alone should have cost him a point.
ikari47
09-25-2007, 02:33 AM
Yeah, it was close. I think maybe all three of the judges felt that the last round went to Lima for getting top control on Osawa, who really seemed too tired to find a way out from under. The second probably went to Osawa on all three cards, meaning that the first went to Lima as well.
It *was* a close split decision, after all. 29 - 28 X 2 for Lima, and a 29 - 28 for Osawa.
EDIT: Personally, I think Osawa was much slicker on the feet. It was just Lima's wild punches from the bleachers and his Belfort-style machine gun punches that won him the first round. For that matter, had Osawa slipped them and not wanted to brawl in the face of that much opposition, he would have surely won instead of, well, getting tagged a whole bunch.
