BODOGFIGHT 6 LINE-UP SET
New Season Debuts Oct. 23
By Loretta Hunt (loretta@thefightnetwork.com)
Online betting billionaire entrepenuer Calvin Ayre has greenlighted a sixth season of his original BodogFIGHT series, and a 24-fight card has been assembled for this round. After shooting seasons three and four simultaneaously in the tropical Costa Rica locale, 48 fighters converge on a closed set at the Squamish Nation Indian Reserve in nearby North Vancouver, British Columbia for two days of events on August 24 and 25.
The series is already scheduled for broadcast in 90-million U.S. homes on ION Television and in Canada on The Fight Network starting Oct. 23, according to a bodogFIGHT representative. BodogFIGHT?s fifth season will include bouts from July 14?s ?Eddie Alvarez vs. Matt Lee? event in Trenton, N.J.
Featured during the sixth season, welterweight champion Nick ?The Goat? Thompson (32-9-1) returns to the bodogFIGHT battlecade for the first time since clinching the belt from Eddie Alvarez in St. Petersburg, Russia last April. Thompson meets Britain?s striking veteran Mark Weir (19-12-1) in a non-title fight.
Promising featherweights Sami Aziz (0-0-1) and Las Vegas? JR Sims (0-1) are back, springboarding off impressive debut performances in season three; while recent King of Pancrase inductee Assuerio Silva joins the heavyweight ranks.
