It wouldn't surprise me much if Forrest did just that, but I wouldn't say I'm anticipating it or expecting it either.

It's too bad, he would've made a much better first match for Shogun or Wandy than fucking Forrest

Forrest would beat the living piss out of Babalu.

Uh... what?

Forrest Griffin has extremely underrated grappling and his takedown defense is pretty good. Babalu's takedowns are not impressive at all, his stand up is HORRIBLE, and he has a weak chin. Griffin would knock his head off his shoulders.

Too bad Griffin has to face Rua next. To me, Forest is actually under-rated in a lot of ways, but it's like sticking him in a title fight.

I really think Forrest has a legitimate shot against Shogun. I don't think Shogun will be able to get the clinch on Forrest, Shogun's boxing is terrible, Shogun and Forrest have similar ground styles....so don't anticipate either to be tooled down there.

The most important thing is that Shogun isn't a brawler and won't be catching with anything wild, like a haymaker. I anticipate Forrest to actually outwork Shogun in a battle of attrition and stealing a JD
this is Shogun we're talking about here. the #1 LHW on nearly everyone's LHW list. i'd expect shogun to win by tumbling flying kick melee ground and pound smash-out heel hook. forrest is going to be tazmanian devilled.

It's a good fight for Griffin, I'm glad he took it. It will really show how good he really is against arguably the best LHW in the world right now. Even if he losses he will be able to bounce back. He's only 28 right now, he has a long career ahead of him.

You are crazy, the only way this happens is if Shogun doesn't train at all

So are you going to provide an argument to prove me wrong? If not don't waste bandwith with lame posts like this.

I like Griffin, but it seems like Dana and co. are trying to get rid of him lately, if it wasnt for staph, he would've got jabbed/straighted/low-kicked to death 40,000 times against Lyoto...and now they pair him with Shogun.

Ironically, I use "lame posts like this" to actually NOT waste bandwidth, because your argument here is garbage and exaggerated to the point where I don't even want to discuss it. Have you even seen the last Babalu fight? And my point originally wasn't even Babalu > Forrest.

Why are they trying to get rid of him? He's a household name who benefits the UFC if anything. They are just pitting him against the cream of the crop of 205, because they are putting his skills to the test. Nothing wrong with that. It's not like he's going to stay fighting lower level talent his whole career.

I disagree, I think after his losses to Tito and Jardine, they think he's capped and will rise no higher, and have rerouted his course as gatekeeper.

Have I seen Babalu's last fight? Yeah, against David Heath who isn't on the same level of a Forrest Griffin. David Heath is a gatekeeper at VERY best. He will never beat a Top 15 level fighter. Better yet did you see Babalu's fight before that, against Jason Lambert? Excatly. Babalu stand up is horrible, Griffin stand up is nothing to brag about but it's better then Babalu's. Plus Griffin has KO power and Babalu has a weak chin and can't take punches.

You're original point was stating Babalu would be a better 1st fight for Shogun and Wanderlei then a fighter like Griffin would be. Maybe for Shogun just based on the fact that Babalu beat him very early in his MMA career, so it provides a storyline, other then that no. Griffin stands a better chance then Babalu does.

Wait, hold up...so you are telling me you are picking an earlier fight from Babalu instead of his last one, one where he's proven to shown improvements in his striking and overall game in general???

And where is this vaunted Griffin KO power that you speak of?

His fight with Lambert happend just in March, there is no way Babalu's striking can improve vastly in the span of a couple months. David Heath just sucks ass.

Griffin has KO power, he stunned Tito Ortiz in the 2nd round, but didn't follow up on it. Tito has a more solid chin then Babalu as well.

so patrick cote > babalu, too then.. this argument isn't workin ROA. the main issue here is that Forrest has done dick whereas Babalu has pwned the gatekeeper portion of LHW and most importantly won the fucking tournament that Forrest got knocked the fuck out of by Jeremy Horn.

all i'm demanding you attend to here, Roa, is that on paper: Babalu > Forrest all day and night forever and ever and so it goes til they fight or Forrest does somethin big. it's either man's fight to do whatever they please with to whatever ends, til then tho, again: Babalu > Forrest.

Yeah, I think with the domination he showed against Heath, Babalu would take Forrest too. Especially if Forrest called Babalu a motherfucker at the weigh-ins.

Patrick Cote stand up techncially is alot better than Babalu is.

Forrest Griffin outgrappled Jeff Monson, and looked impressive against Tito Ortiz.

Griffin got KTFO by Horn, early in his career. I think it's safe to say that Griffin has vastly improved since 2003, and if he fought Jeremy Horn right now he would give Jeremy Horn a beating of a life time. Babalu has done just as much as Griffin IMO. Babalu's best victory is over a very green Shogun. Over then that who has he beat? Jeremy Horn, who should be fighting at 185, and style wise is a perfect match up for him?

I think you guys are overrating Babalu and underrating Griffin.
