View Full Version : Reggie Miller's retirement
well, all us fans know that Reggie Miller said he would retire after this year. Ring or no ring. The Pistons defeated the Pacers and thus eliminating them from the playoffs. Jackson, Oneil, and Artest picked a hell of a year to go fight the fans. What might have been if that didnt happen. I for one am very sad to see Reggie leave the game. He is a masterful player, and a master at the 3 point shot. In good fashion the final shot he hit, was indeed a 3 pointer. Goodbye reggie miller. Ring or no ring, i hope he makes it in to the hall of fame. 47.1 career fg percentage, 39.5 career 3 pt shooting, 18.2 PPG. 25,279 career regular season pts scored, 2945 career playoff pts scored in 143 games, making a 20.5 playoff ppg. Reggie is the man, and i wish him good luck with his future endeavors.

Reggie is a legend, at least he retired spending his entire career with his team instead of doing a karl malone.

and now the 80's are closed out....man, what an era
he did all he could tonight, but the rest of the team just didn't respond. what a way to go out though, in a blaze of glory
he'll probably come back next year
for the 3 point shoot out
i hope he plays one more year. just 1 more. with the full team back. they are strong with oneal, jackson, and artest on the floor.

yeah, miller should make next year his last. this year, it wasn't the right time and the team wasn't together. with artest coming back, he'd have a better chance in advancing in the playoffs
exactly. he deserves a ring more than ANYBODY. and his loyalty to the team. any team would have been happy to bring him aboard to go win a ring, but he didnt choose that route. Respect.

yaeh i'd love to see him back for another season, even as a bench player. just to get one last shot at the title with artest back.

more than stockton? I don't think so
not more, but equal to. this is reggies thread damnit.
Reggie was in Stockons boat though. never got a Ring but stayed loyal to his team and city.

Reggie played past the Jordan era and still, with the same team that pushed the Bulls to the brink in the playoffs, they just couldn't get the job done. bad timing all around for Reggie, just like Barkley going to the Rockets a year too late
yeah, shit happens. but i still say their a strong team with their big 3 along with reggie hittin 3's. he can play one more year. hes taken care of himself even thru injuries n such.

he'll be back, he's still got a few years left. he probably used retirement as a way to inspire his team. now he's biting on his fingernails thinking: "fuck, that didn't work"
Stephen Jackson sounded like he felt like shit for losing. he said if he wins a Ring in the future he is giving it to Reggie.

I also wish Reggie the best of luck in his future endeavors. He gave us alot of unforgettable memories. I liked him because he was always the bad guy and he would always trash talk with Spike Lee and his opponents. I was also a shooting guard in high school, so I like players like Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton. Reggie was definitely one of the best pure shooters in the history of the NBA.

just like Barkley going to the Rockets a year too late
It was painful to see that as a Rockets fan. We had 3 Hall of Famers on our team, Hakeem, Clyde the Glide and Barkley. Three players in the top 50 NBA players of all time. There was alot of expectations for us that year and we came up short against Utah in the Western Conference Finals. John Stockton hit that 3 point shot at the buzzer and ended our season.

I will always remember Reggie best for his heroics against the Knicks in MSG way back when

I am surprised that he didn't bulk up during his NBA tenure. Surely he heard about protein drinks and weight gainers?

So, the last great from the Jordan Era retires like so many others..............without a ring. Damn. You think Ron Artest feels a little guilty right now?

Take your final bow Reggie.
Artest fucked up bad. thats why i think Reggie should give it one more year with the team together like it should have been this year. Jackson already felt horrible with losing. he wanted to help get Reggie his ring. even said if he wins one he is mailing it to Reggie because he owes him now.
Reggie had the worst vertical leap for a black guy ever.
who cares. he still got the job done.
i've always hated reggie with a passion, but even i got goosebumps when he was called out of the game and the whole place cheered for him. larry browns decision to call a timeout and then have his team come to the halfcourt line to join in on the cheering was the classiest thing i've seen in pro sports in a very long time.
also, i've seen a couple places say that reggie shouldn't be in the hall of fame because, even though he was a very good player throughout his career, he was never a superstar, but i think his 3-point shooting alone should get him in, not to mention all his clutch plays.

not even a little bit, he's probably too busy concentrating on his record label to have even noticed that his team is out of the playoffs.

If by "got the job done" you mean "never won a championship" then yes, you're right.
I'm not a Reggie Miller fan. Ever since that whole "choke masters" comment he made after the game winning shot against the knicks way back when, I've always thought of him as a dipshit and Larry Bird-esque type player who played too much like a small guy. He was right around the NBA height average (he's 6'7'', the av used to be 6'8''), but he chose to live and die by the 3. He should have expanded his game to help his team out. Way back when Rick Smits played, they should have won a championship. Smits was decent, but could have been better if it weren't for his feet problems.

they had a very solid team when they had Mark Jackson, Chris Mullin, Rik Smits, Dale Davis, Antonio Davis, etc
they pushed the bulls to the brink, but they couldn't get the job done. a year later, pretty much the same team, again, they couldn't get the job done and Jordan wasn't in the league

some ass fuck just called in to the Dan Patrick show said that Reggie has only hit 1 clutch shot in his entire career....how many games did he watch? 1? the playoff game at MSG? because he hit how many in 20 seconds?
also, they had a debate on who's the greatest 3-point shooter of all time. majority is Reggie and one guy called in and said Larry Bird. Larry Bird's all around is a much better player, but Reggie's got him in 3-points
So he didnt win a championship. that makes him a shit player? ok. he played his position very well and yes, he got the job done there almost everytime. his big years were at the wrong time, just like so many other players. it doesnt make them terrible either.

stats speak for themselves. he's a first ballot hall of famer and in the top 15 in all time scoring
give the guy credit, even if you despise him, he's the last link to the great NBA era

actually, if anythings going to keep him out, i think it will be his stats, 18-3-3 for his career doesn't exactly scream out "hall of fame." even if you took his best rebounding season, his best assists season, and his best scoring season and melded them together, he'd be about 25-4-4, still not that overly impressive.

I never said he was a shit player. He got his shots, his points, his 3's, but his team should have won championships when they didn't because he didn't get the job done, was my point. The great players make the people around him better. As Bishop pointed out, he had a wonderful supporting cast and couldn't get the job done.
He'll end up becoming a hall-of-famer because of his stats and his clutch 3-point shooting. That's down on paper and no one can disprove that he had a great shot.
The pacers should have traded reggie for cheryl.

there's no denying he's hall of fame bound....just accept it
since when is a team 1 person? Reggie has good playoff numbers. i wouldnt exactly put the blame all on his shoulders.

He should get in on the virtue of that plus the fact that he scored over 25k. I'm not sure but I think all of the 14 or so players who have reached that mark are in the HOF.

as i said earlier, i personally think he should get in, however at the same time i think the arguments that he shouldn't because all he was good for was catching and shooting do hold some merit.

is Olajuwan eligible yet? if not, he's first ballot
dominique should get in some time, hopefully soon because he truly deserves it. maybe the trade to the clippers after he led atlanta to the best record in the league....quite possibly the worst trade possible during that year when they were on fire with dominique.....pssshhh danny manning
