We have recently finished our second installment of official rankings for 2008 here at BloodyKnux. As a reminder, we only rank fighters in the division in which they most recently fought. We also attempt to rank primarily on actual accomplishments as opposed to basing them on a fighter's potential. Without any further ado...

Heavyweight
1. Fedor Emelianenko
2. Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera
3. Randy Couture
4. Josh Barnett
5. Tim Sylvia
6. Andre Arlovski
7. Fabricio Werdum
8. Cheick Kongo
9. Gabriel Gonzaga
10. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic

Russian sensation Fedor Emelianenko remains on top of the Heavyweight rankings with his long time nemesis, Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Noguiera (#2), back on his heels with a win over Tim Sylvia for the interim UFC Heavyweight title. The move drops Randy Couture down a spot to number three after vacating the title last fall. The loss to Noguiera makes Tim fall one position to number five affording The Baby Face Assasin, Josh Barnett, the chance to move up a notch.

Andre Arlovski also benefits from a previously higher ranked fighter losing and moves up a spot to 6 as Fabricio Werdum TKO'd Gabriel Gonzaga to jump from #10 up to #7 while in turn Gonzaga falls from #6 to #9 with French kickboxer Cheick Kongo settled in between them at number 8. Mirko CroCop holds onto the tenth rank but Ben Rothwell, who tore through the IFL's heavyweight roster, remains eager at the chance to slide into our official rankings.

Light Heavyweight
1. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
2. Lyoto Machida
3. Forrest Griffin
4. Dan Henderson
5. Keith Jardine
6. Chuck Liddell
7. Mauricio Shogun Rua
8. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
9. Wanderlei Silva
10. Rashad Evans

The Light Heavyweight division remains unchanged due to a lack of activity. Rampage Jackson remains atop the heap after winning the UFC Light Heavyweight title from our number 6, Chuck Liddell, and then unifying the Pride and UFC titles with a win over our number 4, Dan Henderson. Lyoto Machida's perfect record and one sided win over our now #8 fighter of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou earns the runner up position.

Forrest Griffin's outstanding perfromance against highly regarded Brazillian Shogun Rua (#8) gets the third spot, followed by Henderson, and then Keith Jardine who takes #5 for his decision victory over Liddell, who beat our now #8 fighter, Wanderlei Silva, in their most recent contest while Rashad Evans remains undefeated and holds on at number ten after drawing with Tito Ortiz and earning a split decision over Michael Bisping in his last two outings. Evans will essentially be defending his position in his upcoming bout against Thiago Silva in May when they are scheduled to meet at UFC 84.

Middleweight
1. Anderson Silva
2. Paulo Filho
3. Rich Franklin
4. Yushin Okami
5. Nate Marquardt
6. Robbie Lawler
7. Yoshihiro Akiyama
8. Frank Trigg
9. Jorge Santiago
10. Kazuo Misaki

Our top 4 middleweights go unchanged since last month. Anderson Silva is the undisputed champ with his fellow Brazillian, Paulo Filho falling right behind at #2. Former UFC middleweight champ rich Franklin comes in at #3 with Yushin Okami at #4. Nate Marquardt climbs a spot from #6 to #5 with a submission over the always tough Jeremy Horn, which in turn bumped the injured Robbie Lawler down from #5 to #6.

The Akiyama/Misaki fight being changed to a No Contest caused some shuffling in the lower portion of the rankings. Yoshihiro Akiyama moves up from #9 to #7 while Kazuo Misaki falls from #8 to #10. Frank Trigg and Jorge Santiago fall in between them at 8 and 9 respectively. Denis kang remains on the cusp as he looks to get back on the winning track.

Welterweight
1. Georges St Pierre
2. Jon Fitch
3. Matt Hughes
4. Matt Serra
5. Karo Parisyan
6. Josh Koscheck
7. Jake Shields
8. Diego Sanchez
9. Carlos Condit
10. Yoshiyuki Yoshida

The welterweight division is also static since last month. Interim UFC Welterweight champ, Georges St Pierre, is our top dog of the 170 lb weight class due to dominating performances over Matt Hughes (#3) and Josh Koscheck (#6). Jon Fitch's win streak gets him second place while the man who actually holds the UFC Welterweight belt falls in at #4 after a hiatus due to an injury. The always tough and rarely soft spoken Karo Parisyan rounds out the top 5.

The Elite XC champ, Jake Shields, is our highest ranking non-UFC welterweight at #7 with his impressive nine fight win streak. The winner of the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, Diego Sanchez takes the eight spot while Carlos Condit and his WEC welterweight title follow at 9 and Yoshiyuki Yoshida's winning streak earns him tenth just ahead of the UFC's Marcus Davis and Thiago Alves.

Lightweight
1. Takanori Gomi
2. Mitsuhiro Ishida
3. Gesias "JZ" Calvancante
4. Gilbert Melendez
5. Tatsuya Kawajiri
6. Shinya Aoki
7. B.J. Penn
8. Frankie Edgar
9. Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro
10. Sean Sherk

There was little recent activity within the Lightweight ranks. Takanori Gomi clings to his #1 ranking but a lack of activity could essentially cause him to fall in the not so distant future. Misuhiro Ishida barely edges out JZ Calvancante for #2. Gil "El Nino" Melendez sits at #4 followed by Japanese stars Tatsuya Kawajiri (5) and Shinya Aoki (6).

Our only real change in the division is BJ Penn entering our rankings at #7 after mauling our previously #9 ranked Joe Stevenson. Penn's inclusion drops Frankie Edgar (8) and Shaolin Ribeiro (9) each one spot while Sean Sherk remains at #10.

Featherweight
1. Akitoshi Tamura
2. Urijah Faber
3. Takeshi Inoue
4. Hiroyuki Takaya
5. Jeff Curran
6. Antonio Carvalho
7. Masakazu Imanari
8. Yoshiro Maeda
9. Jong Man Kim
10. Hatsu Hioki

Featherweights were also inactive for the most part. Akitoshi Tamura's recent win streak, including an avenged loss to Lion Takeshi (#3) earns the honors of #1 while WEC standout Urijah Faber is nipping at his heels. Another successful defense of his featherweight title like his last one versus Jeff Curran (#5) could potentially edge Faber into the top spot. Hiroyuki Takaya is our #4 after beating Antonio Carvalho (#6) in what was the most recent bout for both fighters.

Masakazu Imanari finds himself at #7 after beating Jong Man Kim (#9) while Yoshihiro Maeda finds himself in between the two at #8. Hatsu Hioki (#10) is the only fighter in our featherweight rankings to see any action since our last publication. However, his win over Toida was not enough for him to surpass Jong Man Kim, to whom he suffered a loss to last October.
