the Herd's top topic this morning was the hate for these 2 stars of their respective sports. no matter what these guys do, they will always be hated. Cowherd was saying that Gordon could save kittens from a burning building and still get booed. also, no matter how great A-Rod plays, what matters is the mistakes he makes. if it wasn't for A-Rod, the Yankee's wouldn't be making this push right now in the division and out of the cellar of the AL East. he's pretty much tops in the top 3 of the main batting categories. but when he makes an error, they make a front page article about it.

is it because these guys are so good in their sports is the reason why all the hate is brought to them? what's this talk about A-Rod not being a real Yankee? the guy is pretty much carrying this team. what does he have to do to get the respect he deserves? who cares about the money he's making. he's either right there at the line of earning the money he's being payed, or, he's above expectations. look at the other players on the Yankee's roster who are under-achievers and making the big bucks. but again, A-Rod is the one getting the shit.

Jeff Gordon, is it because he's a pretty boy? it's not his fault that he looks the way he does. he's a winner and has proven that. I'm not a fan of his or the Nascar circuit, but why the hate? is he a dickhead? they were saying that he's genuinely a nice guy.

maybe fans just don't like nice guys. but it's not their fault that they are down to earth people who just do what they do and that's win or help their team win games. just because controversy doesn't surround them, they shouldn't be held on this level of hatred that they do not deserve

A-Rod sucks when it counts. Generally speaking, watch him in pressure games and he blows it. Hitting with runners in scoring position in crucial situations he blows. In Texas and with Seattle he padded his numbers once those teams were out of the race. Also, people hate him because the know that his is a sorry person and they know a fake when they see one.

duncan is the fucking man, even at the height of the spurs/lakers rivalry i could never bring myself to hate duncan.

and while i personally don't care much for auto racing, to all you guys that think it is just cars driving in a circles, you could simplify just about any sport like that; basketball is just a bunch of guys running back and forth, throwing a ball in a hoop. baseball is just a bunch of guys hitting a little ball. soccer is just a bunch of guys kicking a ball around. football is just a bunch of guys throwing a ball back and forth. rugby is.....i think you get the point by now.

I don't think A-Rod is hard to figure out at all. He jumps from team to team, garnering outlandish contracts, and has shown the ability to be nothing but a self-serving stats machine in the regular season. Most of the time, he's racking up HRs and RBIs when his team is long out of contention. And on top of that...there is no reason to like him. What likeable things has A-Rod ever done?

Well, I personally think that eventually, money hits a ceiling. 20 million dollars a year to 21 million...yes, its a whole extra million, but is it superfluous? Yeah.

But, beyond the idea of money plateauing in actual value to a person...its not JUST about the money. Its the fact he gets the money from the teams, and has this completely unique way of being an island unto himself. A-Rod can hit 40 homers, 140 RBIs and hit .350, but its incredibly likely his team may not make the playoffs some years. He's also a huge choke artist in any game that matters. That tends to make people not like him.
