Fuck Japan television then. Waiting insane ratings during a non-boom period is down right stupid. Need to make more room for shitty game shows?

Herbo

In more English terms he is saying that if the ratings don't improve they are going to be cut in September and if they have no TV deal there is no Dream. The last show was on prime time in Japan for the first time.

Oliver Klosov

sooooo... how do we here at bloodyknux.com improve the japanese TV rating? cause like, it would really suck hard if Dream no longer existed.

I was just thinking in terms of revenue generated for FEG

Herbo
07-31-2008, 01:26 AM
The revenue or money (money will never be an issue for FEG) is not the problem. The risk is that TBS will cut them due to low ratings. HDNet has no affect on this whatsoever.

Oliver Klosov
07-31-2008, 01:29 AM
and there is zero chance to get on a different network? or are the yakuza blocking that?

Herbo
07-31-2008, 01:42 AM
TBS is THE network for Dream. That's as good as it gets. The only thing they can hope for here is that their ratings improve. They already had the Akasaka fight festival and that seemed to help slightly (although it is hard to tell because it was their first foray into the prime time) but they need a star right now. Unfortunately Aoki winning the LWGP would have helped their chances a lot more than Hanson.

and was an amazing event. Kawjiri vs Alvarez and Hansen vs Aoki stole the weekend from both the UFC and Affliction. I can't say enough how sad it would be if the Dream failed.

I agree. I read something about how the rerun of UFC84 on cable outperformed EliteXC in the ratings on Saturday by a wide margin. I miss Pride. I am disappointed that the IFL failed. Though Affliction put on some great fights, I don't know that it can sustain itself. Now Dream may falter as well. I am afraid ultimately MMA will be just a brand (UFC) - that is the way things seem to be going.

That sucks, they need to push semi-retarded Sakuraba more, Gomi and Yoshida in Sengoku hurts too. I wish they would just pool their talents and create Pride II.

Dream needs to get some relevant HW and LHW fights. Almost every Pride card there was one fight which shuffled the rankings with the big boys.

Damn this would be so gay. But at least WVR is doing the right things as a promotion. If Dream folds, hopefully they'll pick up the slack and emerge as a relevant global promotion.

right when Eddie Alvarez was on his way to becoming a Ernesto Hoost/Peter Aerts/Bob Sapp/Fedor/Igor Vovchanchyn-like figure :(

Something doesnt sound right here. Making a statement like that when you have guys under contract but other orgs out there is a little odd.

Although its a little out there I wouldnt be massively surprised if this was a ploy of some kind. Keep in mind that many fans, myself included felt like a member of there family had died when Pride FC folded. Perhaps they are going to do a huge PPV and all of us who might well fill our shorts over the thought of Pride/Dream again biting the dust will instead of watching for free on the net buy 2 x PPV's for good measure.

Just a wild theory but even so this does sound odd.

I guess the rumor of Crocop vs Akiyama has some legs then, seems like a matchup like that would get them the ratings.

You and I don't, but alot of other people do. You gotta take a look at the audience that MMA is attracting. Go watch any UFC event at Hooter's. These may not be the type of fans DREAM wants, but these are the fans DREAM (and any other MMA org) needs. The tight pants, the wrestling shoes, the costumes, they all make your average ignorant UFC fan scream, "GAY!"

Personally, I'd prefer if DREAM didn't change ANYTHING since with each passing event, they're getting better and better, but playing up the emotional and almost intellectual aspect of MMA isn't getting them anywhere in Japan and it sure as hell isn't going to get them anywhere in the West, so it might be time for them to switch it up and start playing to the nu-metal/rap-rock, maxim magazine reading audience. Since that's obviously where the money is.

Dream's USA audience in all actuality doesn't mean dick to them staying alive.

Not now, but if they can gain some market share in the USA MMA market, it could do wonders for them.

actually the issue with his fuckin pants is that they should be illegal because of the traction advantage. uno shouldn't be wearin sneakers and that homo in the gi should have to wear somethin ground leveling as well.

Oliver Klosov

if the gi is legal you should also be allowed to carry a rope in the ring that you could choke the guy with.

FEG is at the point where they have to cut losses to continue. I understand the reasoning. If it's no longer profitable they shouldn't continue doing it. FEG's not a soup kitchen what would you expect?

Giving a contract to Yvel stifles any hope I could ever have unless he's in to the death match with Mike Kyle.

If DREAM dies, do you think FEG will bring back Hero's in a smaller form, or do you think they'll just do away with any and all MMA?
