you recommend an external? I don't have much of a choice though. the dell I have can't be modified at home. I have to send it back to the company for them to add and remove....I got a 4800c or something like that. a very skinny desktop

That's gay as fuck that Dell won't let you work on your own machine.

I don't see any reason that an external won't do you just fine. I'll get an internal one, because Dell doesn't own my soul, but if I was in your situation I'd get an external drive.
