Starting this september, I'm registered to a new BJJ course that's going to be taught at a new training facility downtown. I'll also sit it on the Muay Thai classes during free training periods - but mainly, BJJ. The trainer is supposedly some hotshot ex-BTT named Fabianno something, dunno about his belt or background - I've emailed him and am waiting for a reply.
So, I've lost almost 15 lbs so far since january, now I wanna work on conditionning in these 2 months and a half I have til classes begin.
Now - 1 - what do I need to do to get my cardio working and 2 - what do I need to buy, gear wise?

lots of sprints. and jump rope. also, if you have access hit the heavy bag.
as for gear I'd find out if this class is gi or no gi. then buy the appropriate outfit. then for muay thai get shin protectors gloves, headgear and a steel cup.
Also, wrestling shoes might not be a bad investment.
A)Do some kind of high intensity interval training for your cardio. Maybe go to crossfit.com and do their workout of the day every other day or something.
B)Just buy a gi and a cup, and a mouthpiece if you're gonna spar in MT.

Running hills or Bleachers is great for cardio. Sprints, uphill sprints, suicide sprints are all great for cardio.
I'm starting to get back into training again myself, so i've been thinking of similar things for myself.

as for cardio, drop sets of tuck jump burpees:
sets of 20, 19, 18, 17, etc...with 30 secs of rest in between sets

1.) Ok..if you want to get your cardio to a decent level, nothing will replace sparring, but since you can't do that until you go to class, here's a few simple exercises.
Burpees, jumping jacks, pushups, situps, are a few good exercises that you can change up to create a good workout. You can do 50 jumping squats, and then rest for 10 seconds, and then do 15 sprawls. After you did the sprawls, rest for 20 seconds before doing 20 pushups and then do 20 situps at least 5 different times. Sprinting will be good for you too. If you live in a decent community with mailboxes...then start at one mailbox, and sprint to the other, and do this at least 10 different times. If you have stairs in your house, you can run up and down the stairs 10 times, rest for 5 seconds, and do 20 sprawls.
2.) If you're doing some BJJ...I would suggest buying a Gi, unless it's more of a No Gi gym geared towards MMA. Buying a cup is great too, because I don't want to tell you how many times I have been kneed in the nuts in Muay Thai. You should definitely buy a mouthguard....I have had my teeth knocked loose while doing MMA, and I have had some of my front teeth knocked out, just by doing striking.
I'll give you a little more advice later...good luck.

Did long distance running on Saturday and Sprints and bleachers on Sunday. Bleachers are tough a hell in between sprints...my legs are a bit sore today.

Do me one favour, when you start BJJ, don't be one of those guys who go 3000% first time they roll. Coming from wrestling, I was one of those guys and I must admit, it is fuckin' annoying. We have several guys that weigh 200+, bull rush you and then think they are Royce cause they ripped your head off.

Nah man, I'm gonna check any ego/ideas I may have straight at the door and go in there as the n00b I am. I intend to "tap my little heart out" alot.
So favour granted.

You need to talk to a few kids that I train with.
This one kid has had a few fights under his belt and is pretty damn cocky. I've seen him laugh after he pulls off submissions or laugh when people are attempting submissions. I hate training with him.
When it's stand-up day, I make sure to land a few extra leg kicks to let him know that he isn't the shit.

We have one guy who is Matt Hughes like in build and strength. My wrestling coach doesn't let him train, he got kicked out of Judo and has a really bad reputation in my BJJ club. He is the type of guy who can benchpress 300 pounds for 2 hours, but can't seem to figure out a simple technique.
Due to space, he usually roll starting on the knees. He always wants to stand up, and I'm the only person willing to do so. I always make sure to embarrass the hell out of him.
You guys are crazy! Power grapplers are the greatest thing since sliced bread

Seriously, you won't have enough spare blood. Ever tried to get a hard on while doing >90% loaded squats? Ya, it won't happen. Your body has a list of priorities for blood, and pumping it into your cock is right near the bottom.

Might also wanna invest in some ear muff thingys, to stop you getting ears like Couture. A few of the guys at my club use them, i don't personally because i'm a poor student, then again i don't own a cup and reguarly crush my nuts attempting armbars so don't follow my example.
If you don't know what i mean from my increadibly accurate description of "ear muff thingys", then i mean the things that Rick Steiner made famous

Whoa whoa whoa, i said i didn't wear them. One of the reasons being that i want to develop some sexy cauli's.
My ears won't do it for some reason. Sometimes I just sit here and rub the shit out of them, but they just won't swell up. Stupid.

Mine always feel real hot after lessons and go red, but they don't swell up. Shame i imagine i don't train enough to make them swell

guys, I need advice on decent fightwear, by experience please. I don't want to wear Sprawls just cause so and so wears sprawls.
thanks.
I just wear a regular pair of cotton-(k)nit shorts, cup, and mouthpiece.

that's what I was thinking, but most fight company shorts are so cheap, might as well pay an extra 10$ for something that was designed to that end.

Well, my trainer swears by Sprawl shorts and Gameness gi's. I don't really know if that'll help. Hope so.
Oh, but if you elect to get Sprawl shorts or any kind of shorts, get the kind with the stretchy crotch, so you have more flexability in that area.

Pretty much same here, except I wear mesh shorts. Like basketball shorts. They are cheap and hold up well.
