I was watching a documentary on Liston/Ali, and all the smack flying from both sides (Ali talkin' trash, Liston showing up at Ali's camp and offering him 100$ per round to "spar".) filled the venue to 50,000+ people. I mean, hot damn. For back then? That seems like alot to me.

So Ali essentially talked his way into that fight.

Any other memorable bouts that were hyped up in large part due to pre-fight events? I guess you could say Gatti/Mayweather...

Tyson V Spinks was hyped up and turned out to be a 90 second walkover.

I have never seen a fight hyped up like Lewis-Tyson.

But apart from the heavies? Nothing in my lifetime has touched De La Hoya-Trinidad.

I don't mean hype as in media glitz and such, but more along the lines of the FIGHTERS themselves smack talkin' and workin' up a fight to big levels.

details?

I don't know all that much but it was Benn who had something like 22KO's in the first round in 30 odd fights, against Eubank who was like 30 - 0 and he'd been calling for Benn for a long long time, I think Eubank held the WBC belt and Benn held the more important one being the WBO (?), and it was the first fight of it's kind in England as it involved two world titles. The two hated each other with a passion and still do to this day. Their first fight actually has a programme dedicated to it which is shown like once every two weeks on TV as it's that good.

There was also a fight between Eubank and Collins, where Collins claimed to be under hypnosis and incapable of allowing pain to affect him during the fight, Eubank went on to lose this fight as he said it mentally effected his game as he was worried about damaging this guy in the ring as a few fights earlier he had left some Watson guy in a vegetable state.

lol, like the other guy said, Trevor Berbick.

Does anyone have footage of this on tape? I was dumb enough not to record it.

Berbick was harrassing Holmes for a while to get Holmes to fight, and he confronted him publicly, accusing Holmes of hitting on Berbick's wife. Holmes had enough of the insanity and did a goofy kick off the limo and into Berbick.......Absolutely hilarious stuff.

Although the fight wasn't hyped up as much due to the fighters smack-talking, but more due to the situations around it........Jack Dempsey vs Georges Carpentier was known as one of the most hyped up bouts in boxing history, especially considering the time period it occurred and how many people showed up for the fight.
