When I played ball in HS and JC we had two-a-days and they sucked balls, but got us in shape pretty fast. I just got a call from my trainer Rick and he has a fight lined up for me on August 13th. That's less than a month away, so I have to get on the ball. The only thing I'm worried about is my cardio, so I was thinking about doing like 3 two-a-days a week.

Thoughts?

I think alot of people will bitch and go on and on about overtraining. I personally think it is a good idea.

Whats two-a-days mean?

Pretty much where you are working at twice a day, instead of just once. Like in basketball we'd show up an hour and a half before school started and run laps and lift. Then after school we'd actually have practice where we worked on our skills and ran some more.

I was thinking on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays I could run in the morning and do my calisthenics; then for lunch I can go to the gym and lift or do some more cardio.

On Mondays I guess I would actually be doing a three-a-day because I also have my MMA session. Oh well. I need to get in shape and fast.

You ever did them?

Yes, for football in HS.

Also, during Wrestling I'd wake up and run before school and then have practice afterwards.

Pretty much ever elite fighter does them, and most other elite athletes as well. If you have the time, and you watch your intensity, they are no problem. I work a lot of 2 a days or sometimes 3 a days on weekends

Just make sure you keep your volume in check and you should be fine. From what I've read its better to perform your more intense workout first.

Think about it like this: creating two opportunities for gains per day is better than one!

I think they are a great idea, I remember doing them for basketball, I was in great shape back then. I'm thinking about getting into training seriously, so I will be doing them again myself if all goes as planned.

I ran and did pushups, lunges etc after school, then later that night I did my actual pad work out.

That two a day?

I don't know why I haven't done two-a-days for MMA. Probably because of the time factor. Now I get 1.5 hour lunch breaks, so I'm just going to bring my lunch to work, lift weights or do cardio for that hour and a half, and then eat lunch when I get back to my desk.

Yeah. Sleep is hard for me to get, but I'll just start drinking a lot of nitequil or something.

Friday -

Lunch: Weights
PM: Muay Thai.

Saturday -

Lunch - PM: Bagwork, more sparring..

Sunday -

Bench - 4 heavy sets.

The M/W/F weight routine is all within the 8-12 rep range, 3 sets. More for recovery and endurance than max strength.

This is true, I slept like a baby when I took it.
