People were all over the Dog in about 3 hours after shit came up on the Trackers, talking about how it was a work. You know how that goes
oh yeah, sherdog. i forgot about that place. no wonder i didnt hear anybody crying work.

Sure, and I also thought the fight was a pathetic showing by Kimo who looked so out of shape he was sick. I'm not sure it was a work though. Not that Kimo has a sterling rep(steroids), and would be considered beyond such things.
I guess I think Kimo looked so lame, that Minowa wouldn't need a work.

The way he opened up his legs and waited for minowa to strike....
Maybe Kimo did some porno back in the day and had a flashback.

Hmm.. gotta see this, keep in mind though, I'm generally opposed to spoiler threads.
I've always wondered why the worked fights are so obvious, it's not like it's particularly difficult to have Minowa sub Kimo without having him give him his foot.

im really against calling works on fights,
but after watching minowa vs kimo, i can't help but think it..

Thing is they've never bothered to "protect" Minowa, even after he proved his worth and his obvious popularity was shown I had the feeling that he would be fed to Yvel. Luckily Minowa had other plans... But that was a work too right? It's not like Minowa hasn't done it before. I mean he hit a pile driver on Paulo Filho, attempted drop kicks before in fights and his last fight in Brazil he won by a spinning back kick TRANSITIONED into a rolling kneebar! Whenever a Japanese fighter applies a similar submission on a bigger fighter it has to be! Damn Takada.
It doesn't make any sense, unless Minowa wasn't aware. He likes the challenge and even though he's a "real pro-wrestler" (with the emphasis on REAL) he hadn't done anything worked in his life. If it was a work it sucks, but I'm just saying that every fight is "fishy" nowadays. Kimo just isn't good anymore what I'm thinking.
you are right Kamatari. Kimo just fucking sucks. he sucked against Shamrock, he sucked in his fight against Royster even though he won. he just got owned by Minowa. Minowa is just one of those crazy ass fighters. reminds me of another Saku almost, in the way of trying crazy ass moves and them working sometimes.

I'm more willing to accept Kimo Sucks, and was out of shape, than that the fight was a work. The fight was suspect, but when you have a guy banned for using Roids, everything he does is questionable.

I don't care enough about either fighter to question it it fully, but it looked real enough to me.

my only question is why didn't Kimo throw any punches?

It would make sense for the fight to be worked, but I really doubt that it was.

Kimo looked like he didn't train, and just showed up for a check. I wouldn't be surpried if this is the last we see of him.
Good riddance.

I don't think Minowa is a big enough name for PRIDE to work fights for him, he's hardly a main event type of guy. Surely it wouldn't be worth their while doing this

Exactly, but on the flipside who has fought fighters of similar weight distributions in the past who was a Jap? Sakuraba, Pride could be looking for their new hero and I wouldn't be suprised if Minowa went on to take that accolade in the future if he carries on winning and putting in good performances against the bigger guys.

If Minowa starts fighting talented guys who are bigger than him, then the only Saku fights they will repremble are those against Silva, i.e Minowa getting KTFO.
Good theory though

He still needs to be Ko'ed another two times by Silva anyway before he's on par with Sak.

i'm not quite sure he has proven his worth...i mean if you look at the guy's record, it is less than stellar...i do agree that he hasn't been protected whatsoever and that he's actually been screwed on at least 2 occasions - against Ryan in which he clearly won and the very early stoppage against Rampage...but other than those two fights, he hasn't beaten any top 10 fighter...he's popular because the guy is a mountain of heart and very fun to watch...he's actually become one of my favorite fighters lately but i'm being honest to myself, he's really not that good
man I haven't seen this fight,
seems like Minowa was training really hard for it,
why would Kimo do a work? Has Kimo ever done a work in MMA?
I don't think so,
I went to the PRIDE Japanese website, and everyone thought
Minowa was gonna win anyways, they consider him to be the next
Sak in the making.
nothing was mentioned in the Japanese forums about this being a work.
One guy even mentioned how Kimo's foot is really busted up badly.

Kimo/Sak is said to be a work.

If I hear one more person pissing their panties about roids, I'm banning them. All of your hero's do roids, get over it.
sak vs kimo a work? how could it be a work when Sak lost?
ok just saw the fight right now.
I was impressed with Kimo I thought his BJJ game really improved,
he was really fighting with good position skills like the old
vale tudo fighters, notice his takedown isn't the same ol
single leg he always shoots.
but his guard work............
and then when Minowa breaks free, I see Kimo grab the leg for
a split sec as if he wanted to do a sweep, but other than that
there was nothing, a BJJ black belt should know that there are
leg locks galore, um Kimo didn't even try any subs from the guard,
but it could be that his guard is not his specialty. Why would it be,
he is so huge.
just the last part, I hope this is not a work, but I'm not sure now
cause of the way he got ankle locked, come on man, basic BJJ,
when the guy sits back, you follow him up and take mount or side.
it sort of looked like he threw it.....
damn it, I hate ambiguous worked fights in MMA.
please if your gonna do a work make it obvious so I can enjoy it.

sak vs kimo a work? how could it be a work when Sak lost?
Believe it or not, in 1996...the name "Kazushi Sakuraba" wasn't worth a whole fuck of a lot.

I don't mean in terms of his win-loss record, man fighters like Minowa don't care and quite frankly when it comes to a fighter like him (or Murahama, Takaharu that is) neither do I.
His performances though are energetic and he's able to involve the crowd, if it weren't for Gomi he'd be the MVP of most Bushido shows. The excitement he generates is astounding. Not many people here will know but a couple of years Minowa was ranked in the MW top 10 on some North American sites. Do I agree with that? Well, we'll have to go back in time and ask me.
He's not that good? Maybe, but he can give anyone a tough fight. He's not even a real MW! And he's fighting at openweight, yeah he's crazy. He's beaten Yuki Sasaki (not the most stable fighter, but I thought he beat Ximu in his last fight for instance), Gilbert Yvel and some other notable names. Good enough for me. Sure, he's not the greatest but it's not like anyone of us claim that.
As for Kimo vs. Sakuraba, like MSIA said the name "Sakuraba" didn't really mean anything. Before that he was getting bitchslapped by Tamura just to put things in perspective and was being raped in New Japan like the rest of UWFi. Kimo was the big bad gaijin that they tried to promote, unfortunately no one cared.
But it was a on Shootboxing show, Kamatari! Remember this year's Ground Zero (SB event)? They had a UWFi bout on it and naturally it was a worked shoot. Sakuraba's comedic facials didn't help either.

Its not about Monowa working the fight, but I really think Kimo lost on purpose.
Work threads suck, but I thought that fight really made the sport look bad.

Kimo's already "worked" (hahahahaha...hahaha...ha...) UWFi before against Takayama for example. Not the best example because it was brutal and wouldn't surprise me if Kimo doesn't know how to "work" (I'm on a roll!) or got the green light to do some damage. Kimo deserves an award for his (according to reports) post-fight "end of the road" act then - tears included.

my only question is why didn't Kimo throw any punches?
There was no time for him to be throwing punches. For the few seconds the fight was on the feet he was getting the worse of the exchange. At the start of the fight he took a few punches right in his face, didn't like it, backed up and shot in. Tried to smother Minowa, got swept and got submitted.
