I attempted to burn a divX movie (700MB) to DVD this past weekend and had some problems with the results. I use Ulead Movie Factory and it burned the movie with no errors. However, half way through watching the movie on my DVD player, the audio went out - silent, just video - all the way to the end. edit: Two different DVD players exhibited the same results.

Has anyone experienced this? Are the cheap DVDs most likely the problem? Software? Reps for anyone that can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

ulead is a preety reliable company.

i started my authoring knowledge with ulead dvd workshop1.

chances are it wasnt the disk as it worked to begin with.

chances are something went array durring rendering/encoding to dvd.

i assume you let ulead encode to mpeg2 to make a dvd?

also how long is your program? under 2 hours?

these are all variables that can effect final outcome.

Now if you'll excuse me. I have to go back to encoding dvd's for US airways. Yes. seriously.

I'm in a similar situation myself... I have dvd burning capabilities, and have made dvd's with the fights and highlights I've harvested here and at fwap, but lose audio for some files... and I still haven't figured out how to rip and copy from a dvd.

I recommend to use TMPGEnc what ever you want to do VCD, SVCD or DVD. It works fine with subtitles.

the problem could be the fact you are using varied formats/codecs from the original file source AND the programs cant read them 100%

if you have the hd space and time i recomend converting the video files to quicktime or mscodec avi files and using one of those two to then burn to dvd/encode through a program.

yes, i let ulead do the encoding to mpeg2. it took FOR-EV-ER (3+ hours)

also how long is your program? under 2 hours?
less than 2 hours (1.5 i think)

I will check for upgrades to the version of MF I am using. It may be a couple of years old and not handle divX very well.

I am also going to try converting the divX avi to mpeg2 before using ulead MF. Maybe that will work better. I hope the version of TMPGEnc handles this.

Reps to y'all mah friends.

TMPGEnc is an encoding prog to convert audio and video files to MPEG1 and MPREG2. MPEG2 is the DVD video standard.[/nutshell]

I use Ulead too and haven't had too many probs. The last fucking batch of DVDs I bought were Fujifilm brand (cheapass) and my burner refuses to recognize them as recordable media. Now I'm stuck w/ 20 useless, shitty blank DVDs. I think my problem lies within my burner itself. I have had similar probs before both w/ audio CDs and DVDs but if I keep ejecting and loading it eventually it would recognize it as a blank. I must have tried 100 times with 10 different discs this time and no luck. Fucking shit.

Back to topic (kind of), I'm on the short bus w/ GR when it comes to converting files and ripping from DVD. I've got a shitload of fights on my hard drive now and I'd really like to put some on DVD so I can watch them w/ on my TV or share them w/ my friends that don't have decent PCs. I've also got quite a few DVDs that I'd like to rip so that I can share w/ the folks here. Sometimes I feel flat out retarded when it comes to all of this stuff.

I was trying to use Ulead Movie Factory 2 (for the first time) to record fights off my hard drive and trying to copy a couple DVDs using DVD X copy by 321 Studios (I've copied numerous DVDs before). Both times it said the blank DVDs I was trying to use weren't recordable media.

It seems like it would be either the cheap blank DVDs or the drive itself which has given me trouble in the past, but of course everytime my techno buddy sees it it works fine.

I can record CDs using Nero or Windows Media Player just fine if that means anything to ya.

ok, so TMPGEnc didn't work out as I had planned. the input file is an 700MB avi (divX) and the output file (4GB mpg) was 4 hours long but the vid only took up 1.5 hours and then blackness. oh, and no audio either. no point in trying to burn this piece of shit mpg to dvd at this point. i need to read the help files for TMPGEnc or something. any ideas?

cd and dvds use a different laser don't they? maybe that's why cds work fine and the dvds aren't recognized.

the dvd laser is backward compatible.

you maybe using wrong media.

example.

there is dvd -r and dvd+r up until a year ago, dvd recorders would only record one of those medias. nowadays almost all dvd recorders record - and + dvd's.

You might have a problem with the codecs. Have you already installed this?

Nothing I have tried so far has worked to successfully convert & burn a 700MB divX avi to a DVD movie. I am at a loss. However, I had to put this project on hold because my DVD burner went retard on me. The light on the front of the drive won't stop blinking and the tray won't eject. I am going to buy another burner and based on a comparison at bestbuy.com, this is the one that I think I'm going to get.

Any opinions?

I have never owned a Pioneer drive before and wonder if the brand/supprt is any good. The reason I choose this one is that it has the fastest dual layer burn speed (6x).

if you're looking for something to simply and quickly encode divx to DVD I'd recommend DVDSanta. it's about as easy as you can get.. it'll let you add subtitles but you don't get any authoring options. I'll upload it to the multimedia section...

Ive been using Pioneer since the A-02 drives in 99 for burning when it was a2x speed.

Pioneer invented dvd burning for your pc. its a good unit.

Looks like you already got it working, but something that has helped me in the past as far as codecs go is this program:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

It will let you know if it sees any issues during rendering of the movie, what codecs were used for compression etc
