Well fellow bloodyknuxers, I need your assistance...
As many of you know, I am an amateur sumotori. I am lucky/blessed enough to be a relatively decent rikishi, and I have never gone to State, National, or International Competition without winning a medal.
Except at this ONE tournament!

The US Sumo Open. I have competed 3 times before, and each time I get knocked out of the medal brackets.
The 5th US Sumo Open is Saturday, March 19th. I was feeling pretty good about this one until last Sunday, when I broke my foot during training with the current World Champion (a delightful teacher from Japan).
If you have it in your heart, think good thoughts for me. I am the highest ranked American Heavyweight attending, as many others are out due to injury and inability to make it to the LA Convention Center (travel is expensive for amateurs). I must make a good showing in order to honor the US sumo tradition.
The foot hurts like hell, but is in a location where anything but a "wooden shoe" would be useless. And by the time a prescription for a wooden shoe is filled and one is built for me, I will have healed. I'm just gonna have to tape up and grunt.
I do well when hurt for some reason anyway. I won the Bronze in the US National Championships last September in the Open Weight Division with a dislocated thumb, and I broke this foot in almost the exact same place in the 2002 North American Championships (where I got a 3rd in Heavies and a 4th in the Open) in Toronto.
But, I am getting older. I just don't bounce back like I did 10 years ago, and any well wishing would be greatly appreciated.
Anyway, thanks in advance and enjoy the rest of your St. Patrick's Day! :D
