The second and third (also the first) are definately worth seeing if you were interested the first time round. The budgets for the second two flms are obviously alot more substantial and they have actually been able to make a pretty good looking film the second time round. The third whilst not as impressive ties together aspects of the third and second film as it is focused on the external sources who are involved with the cube and has some pretty cool charachters. The films are thought provoking and somewhat politically relevant too, although the acting and directing leave alot to be desired.

The Cube was one of those films that had the legs to stand on its own without any big Hollywood budget. Good flick. Isn't it a Canadian film?

The film was directed and shot in Canada by a young director and a group of students (although I dont know his name by heart) Not only did the film have a small budget but the whole film itself was shot inside one room using only different lighting and appliances to change the colours of the rooms. However the second and third films are not directed by the same director and this is evident from the outcome of the film. Overall the second film as a sci-fi film looks very impressive and is definately worth a watch.

The first one was great - very original.
The second one was pure shit.
I didn't bother with the third.

The third one in my opinion is better than the second, not visually but it still has poor reviews. I dont think it is the film itself I enjoy, just the theories and ideology of the whole idea. Your opinion seems to be similar to many who feel that the majority of its plus points derive from the originality of the film, I however was not contempt by the brief explanation in the first and like how you are kept guessing throughout. May not be everybody's cup of tea, but in my eyes it's worth the 90 minutes and is one of the few films that created active, useful, thoughprovoking conversations afterwards.

The first had an original premise, good acting (despite the lead black dude hamming it up as the film went on), genuine edge-of-your-seat scenes and great editing. It's amazing that, while they basically had only one set piece, you really had the feeling of space and immensity they tried to convey, DESPITE the claustrophobic nature of the situation. Plus death by math? awesome.
The second one made an attempt to expand on the mythos with cheap stunts, cheaper CGI and bargain bin acting. Totally cashing in on the first - so no, they won't get my money a third time.

The third film is set outsde the Cube, it is a prequel to the first and focuses upon people who work for the Cube, in this one you really begin to understand what it is about, and alot of ontological arguements and viewpoints are raised. You find out who the mentally disabled guy is and why he is in there etc. However it is another cash in on the first and second and the third leaves room for another as there are still many aspects of the story that are not revealed.

The "story" shouldn't be revealed - that's what made the first film so effective. I don't think the creator intended there to be any grand explanation.

Surprisingly the 3rd was good too. It didnt reveal too much actually but as a film on its own without the presence of the 1st making it look pale its good. The 2nd wa turd.

To be honest I don't think the film itself is a great film, the concepts, the ideas, the guessing and not knowing is what makes the triology so good, one of the few films that really leaves you talking about it for hours afterwards, as with Lost you can get as deep into as you wish.
I liked the 3rd as it took a completley different angle and did reveal a little bit more about what was actually going on, apparantly a 40 minute fan film is being released for the fourth installment.

Yup, the 3rd departed from the conecpt of the 1st 2 and was all the better for it.
You should checkout Primer. Its THE most complicated / low budget sci fi I have ever seen. Its also brilliant.

First one was awesome. Something different, unique, smart, and well executed. They tried to do too much with the second one. I've yet to see Cube Zero, but I've heard good things. Overall a good investment, if you can find them at a pawn shop or something. Don't pay full price.

Agreed...no point in making sequels....it ruins the ideal, because they start to answer the unanswered questions....takes the mystique out of the movie.
the first one wasnt bad...some cheesy acting, but otherwise interesting.
the same team that wrote cube (and acted in it) wrote another movie that recently came out called "Nothing"....not sci-fi or horror, more like comedy....very weird....its worth watching at least once.
