Its a cruiserweight title eliminator that is coming on Saturday night on Showtime. Now before you go and take the typical mindset on the cruisers that they are a slightly lighter ,boring version of the heavy's let me explain about Braithwaite. He hits really fucking hard. He had a war in his loss to Jean Mark Momeck, the current king of the Cruisers, last time out and before that he was steamrolling opponents. If you can catch the bout , do so as it will be on Showtime this weekend and will be very entertaining.
Never been a fan of Braithwaite. Lotta power, I'll give that. It's just...
Remember that awful movie "The Quick and the Dead"? Where the kid takes out the Swedish champion in the very first round, and says, "Now, am I fast, or is Sweden just a very small place?" That's what being the king of the cruiserweights is. Like the winner of the special olympics. Either move up, or cut down and get a piece of the beasts at LHW.

who was king of the CW division before him? Toney? i cant think of another dominant CW other than lights out, then again my boxing knowledge lacks something to be desired.

Vassily Jirov was the guy who was most known in the cruisers before Braithwaite and Momeck. If the cruisers stayed in their own division and didnt move up to be heavyweight target practice like Jirov did and Al Cole did before him, they would be ok.

There is alot of obvious ignorance towards this division, which is quite honestly one of the strongest and most exciting divisions out there right now. It has a legit champion in Jean-Marc Mormeck, that is one of the better P4P fighters in the sport. A SLEW of exciting, TV made to order punchers....with the right brand of management, willing to make the biggest fights.
Give me the cruiserweights over any division out there right now, besdies 130, 135 and 140.

I wonder how we'd think of Evander if he never made the move up...

As a good, solid cruiserweight champion. Times have changed. There is no Mike Tyson or George Foreman @ heavyweight to make money with, right now.
The division was in its infancy when he arrived and there wasn't exactly a number of top line fighters making camp @ 190, like there is now.
Over the years, it has developed a style of fighter which generally makes it to the top. They're usually guys who can crack and don't mind taking one, to land one.
To me, that's exciting. Especially if they can actually fight a bit as well.
