APEX: UNDISPUTED
Injury plagued card impresses!
It was at the Medley showhall in downtown Montreal where APEX unveiled it's second show in history with APEX: UNDISPUTED, and though the originally announced card was quite different from the one put on, clever matchmaking and hard-nosed athletes managed to pull out a spectacular night of action for the fans.
Nino Bezerra vs. Mike Hong - DRAW.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/mike.jpg
After an accidental lowblow and headbutt, Hong pressed the fight with crisp strikes that put the BTT Canada member on the defensive. Thanks to crowd support and good corner work, Nino came out strong in round 2 with takedowns, ground and pound and managed to win the second round of this 2 rounder.

Nabil Khatib vs. S?bastien Poirier - Nabil Khatib by TKO round 1.
Poirer came out and managed a self-takedown to ground the action early but was nutralized by the stronger Nabil. A standing guillotine by Poirier was countered by a monster slam from Khatib. Some quick ground and pound led to a quick stoppage. It never looked like Poirier was in this fight.

Wojtek Kaszowski vs. Serge Lafond, Kickboxing - Majority decision win for Kaszowski.
Domination from the polish native in this one. Spin kicks, mid kicks, body work - Wojtek came out with a big arsenal. Wojtek scores a down in the third round and goes wild with haymakers in the 4th. Lafond hangs in there as best he can and to his credit shows flashes of activity but nostly he turtles up and tries to survive. Fight ends with Lafond trying to work back into it with kicks and spinning backfists - only to be downed once more. Surprisingly a judge scored the fight a draw.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0334copy.jpg
Kevin came out on a mission and took it to Randy big time, after some quick grappling Kevin managed to take Randy's back and applied a lightning quick armlock to dislocate the Kitchener native's elbow. Here's hoping for a quick rehab for Randy.

Fran?ois Flibotte vs. Sean Ragnitz - DRAW.
First round is a story of missed opportunities. Both were in position to finish the fight eventually but did not capitalize. The fighters were evenly matched and both stuck to safe gameplans.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0403copy.jpg
Both came out lookin for takedowns, with Rowan clearly the more explosive of the two. The team Joslin fighter punished the BTT canada member with harsh ground and pound until Beaulieu's back was exposed and Cunningham mercifully applied the rear naked choke.

Martin Grandmont vs. Eric Lacelle - Grandmont by TKO at the end of round 1.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0448copy.jpg
Eric was never in this one as Martin was too fast and too accurate with his strikes, throwing punches in bunches and working the kicks to the body and head. Grandmont clearly overwhelmed Lacelle but to his credit, Lacelle never dropped. He kept coming forward but simply had no answer for Grandmont's onslaught. Bloodied and humbled, Eric's corner mercifully ended the fight, though the referee's should have stepped in earlier.

Nuri Shakir vs. Stever Berger - Shakir by unanimous decision.
This rematch was one sided and basically controlled by Shakir's impressive and patient clinch work. Body shots, knees and a solid base kept this one in the clinch for the majority of the bout. Round 3 was puncutated by an insane judo throw by Shakir with stunned Berger and led to some solid ground and pound. Shakir was never in real trouble.

Claude Patrick vs. Mandela Kponou - Patrick by rear naked choke submission, round 1.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0599copy.jpg
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0593copy.jpg
Kponou came into this one with one day's notice, a true warrior. However, heart alone doesn't win fights and Claude was all over him despite a big size advantage by Mandela. Patrick took the figth to the ground wisely and brutalized Mandela until he sunk in a tight choke. A jubilant Patrick jumped into the crowd post fight.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0662copy.jpg
Stephen Thomson vs. Freddie Espiricueta - Thomson by tko round 3.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0697copy.jpg
Freddie was simply not on Thomson's level in this kickboxing fight. Thomson came out scoring at will with spin kicks, high kicks, hooks and a stiff jab. Espiricueta never really landed cleanly and the two butted heads early in round 3 and the Houston native was bloodied immedeatly. Dropping his guard, Thomson seized the chance and landed a quick flurry that fell his opponent in a bizarre sudden ending. However, Ferocious Freddie was simply not in the Wonderboy's league.
Ivan Menjivar vs. Joe Lauzon - Menjivar by submission due to a Calf cruncher, rd 1.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a379/apexfighting/DSC_0757copy.jpg
Lauzon comes out ballsy against the seasoned Menjivar and takes the fight to him. Ivan is just too strong and too good a wreslter and avoids the initial onslaught and takedowns. They exhange on the feet and Joe's rocked, he takes Ivan down who sweeps into full mount. Joe manages to stand back up after a few brutal elbows. Ivan's cut as they exchange again and wrestle to the corner. Ivan with the takedown, more explosive grappling and both are looking for heelhooks. Ivan eventually frees himself and wraps up Joe's lower leg to fall back into a perfect Calf cruncher for the tapout win.
