Ray Mancini
Jeff Chandler
Alfonso Zamora
Teddy Atlas

Good for Boom Boom. Its been long overdue. Mancini was one of the more exciting lightweights to ever grace the ring and its a shame some people remeber him more for killing Duk Koo Kim in the ring than for his wins over such good fighters as Bobby Chacon

Should I go to this? There is a chance I could get a free ticket to the show only problem is it is up in Rochester... :/

Boom Boom showed his best in his losses in my opinion. He always went down swinging as evidenced by his eventual submission to the potent fists of Alexis Arguello.

He wasn't one of those supremely talented guys like a Mayweather or Roy Jones but his heart, conditioning and ambition took him to heights few guys with his tools have reached.

Now when viewing this group ... who the hell can say Virgil Hill ain't Hall bound? He accomplished more than every single one of em.

Good for Zamora. He wasnt the greatest fighter but damn could he fuckin punch. His KO of Pedroza was brilliant.

How is Hill hall worthy? Due to the sheer length of his reign? He lost to a old Thomas Hearns and if you say his career defining win was against Maske, then you need to check into the "Nervous Hospital"[/QUOTE]Well, let's see ... since you asked ... He DOES own the most title defenses of any lt hvy EVER. He was 288-11 as an amateur ending with his 1984 silver medal in the Olympics. As a pro he's 49-5 with 23 KO's. His 5 losses are to Thomas Hearns, a hof'er, RJJ, a hof'er, Michalscewski, the only other contemporary of his who can lay claim to being king during his prime and a likely hof'er and MormeckX2 a man over a decade his junior who he fought at 38 and 40 years of age and barely lost a split decision and was stopped on a cut the other time. The current and reigning champ who just destroyed Braithwaite.

He's 24-5 in championship fights, he was fighter of the year in 93 and comeback fighter of the year in 2000. He KO'ed Leslie Stewart in 87 in 4, decisioned and KO'ed Tiozzo in 1, decisioned TateX2 and Maske most of those were title wins. You can look em up to see which he won and when.

Let's hear why the current class deserves Hall induction and he doesn't ... don't bother. There's no rational explanation. Then there's always Matthew Saad Muhammad who barely has a winning record and who has no better a list of accomplishments than Hill OR longevity, who everyone gleefully is teabagged by.

He just wasn't a big puncher and was a crafty southpaw who was dodged by most other contenders similar to how Winky Wright is today. Believe it or not.

Any hall that doesn't include a fighter with those credentials isn't worth belonging to. Look who's there now ... look who's getting inducted in this class and THEN rationalize it.

If you want to say Virgil Hill was dodged, its probably because he would never fight outside the state of North Dakota unless someone damn near pulled his teeth out to make him do it. Michael Moorer KO'd Leslie Stewart too, is he a HOF guy? Hill will be a HOF'er.Im Just saying i dont care for him

He is a classy guy but watching him fight was like watching paint dry for the most part

teddy atlas is in there? did he ever fight? i didnt think trainers got in.

elgigante

yeah trainers get in. He is inducted under the non fighting category, reserved for journalists, trainers and other contributors to the sport. He was always one of my favorite trainers. His motivation techniques with Michael Moorer, like threatening to call Mikes family and telling them Daddy didnt want to fight in mid fight was gold

Ay, he fought in his community whenever he could ... nothin wrong with that. He was just supportin his peeps as he should. It's not like he ever received home cookin as far as decisions. He didn't have any clout or a powerful promoter who could steer things his way. Anyway, that's nothing to detract from the facts as I stated em above. WHO from the class above had a better career?

NONE OF EM. End of story.(dude, you gotta stop takin Tam's view as the word of God) He is frequently wrong.

Michael Moorer ... hall of famer. First southpaw to win the title. You can't judge him by the overweight 40 year old you see today.

Shao, i have been watching boxing long enough, especially during Hill's era, that i could form my opinion of him just fine by myself. I dont like him as a fighter. He was too much of a homer, and was a boring fighter to me.

i told you he will be a HOF'er anyways. Why compare him to the current class when he hasnt even called it quits yet?

Why so sensitive all of a sudden, dude? Damn, okay I guess we've reached a mutual understanding on the matter.

Next impasse ....

Guys like Mancini and Zamora make it (I thought Chandler was already inducted a few years back), but they can't find any room in there for somebody like Panama Joe?

*sheds tears*

Joe Brown's not in there?

Joe Brown's not in there?

Oh, Joe Brown is in there, Dingo, but poor Panama Joe still hasn't been given a seat in there yet...A shame!

"Panama Joe is perhaps one of the finest pugilists of Boxing's Golden Age. But his name is not one that will be forever linked with Dempsey, Greb, Walker, Villa or Leonard. His is a name that has fallen into an abyss, lost in the obscurity of old record books and dusty magazines, buried amongst the mounds of forgotten fighters of the past." --- words written by Kevin Smith, whose the author of a very well researched and great boxing book about the great black fighters of the early days called, 'The Caramel Covered Kings'...

That author also has the opinion that Panama Joe was the best black Middleweight around during the era of 1915-1930...yes, better than even the great, Tiger Flowers, who Panama Joe knocked out in two out of their three meetings.

Panama Joe for the HOF!

You talking about the guy over at BoxingTalk?

Nah, that's not me, Dingo, but I'm very willing to fight the guy over the rights to this name since I believe I had it first (he was YoungSharkey III before changing it)...

And before you or anybody asks, the Yogi that posts over at Eastside Boxing isn't me either, as I only use that name over at Boxing Scene.

im not going by boxingscene for the next couple of days because of the almost guarenteed flame wars between the mexicans and Pinoys over there ruining every damn thread in non stop boxing. that shit is almost as bad to read as Sherdogs MMA forum

El G, I just took a quick peek over at BS and from what little I saw, it's not the Mexicans and Pinoys battling it out tonight, but instead a few Puerto Rican guys taking their shots at Morales...Payback for some post Winky/Tito shit talking, maybe?

also that place isnt modded much at all unless reeno gets bugged enough it seems. i find it hard to have good conversations without a shitload of uniformed fighter bashing happening. i persoanlly dont care if someone doesnt like a fighter, i just want them to back it up if possible

Yeah it's pretty hard getting a decent conversation going over there with anybody, so I usually try to stick to topics on some of the older fighters that most of those youngsters are clueless about...It keeps me out of trouble, I guess.
