Photoshop question - Blend 2 saved images?

Anyone know how you put two images together to make one pic?

I know I need to make each image into it's own seperate layer and I know how to combine the layers BUT when I open my first pic to be the background layer I can only make the 2nd layer a new blank one. I can't open any images I already have as the 2nd layer.

How do you import a pic you already have as a 2nd layer?

have both your pictures open, pictures one and pictures two. Resize them so you can see them both on your screen at the same time. Do a ctrl-a to select all on pic 2. Use your arrow tool to click and drag the selection from pic 2 to pic 1. This will put it on top of picture 1 as a new layer. Alternativly you can select all on pic 2 and do a copy and then paste into pic 1. There are tons of ways to go about doing what I THINK you are trying to do.
