Early league MVP is looking like Palmer, if the wheels don't fall off the Bengals, which they shouldn't this season. Sack leader, take Freeney, easy. QB yards leader, Collins or Bulger are throwing an exorbant amount of times in the early games. Tackle leader...Zach Thomas is lighting up madd tackles, and will get it easy if he stays healthy. Rushing yards...Cadillac won't get as many carries late in the season, especially with the Bucs poised to make a playoff run. Take Shaun Alexander there. Receiving yards is the hardest...but I'd go with Big Game Holt, because he's getting open a lot, he has good chemistry with Bulger, and the Rams will never stop tossin'.
my answer for any sports thread is "go with what mysexisartsy says."

Palmer over McNabb for league MVP?
McNabb is another good choice, but people will always say "Oh, McNabb has TO" before "Oh, Carson has Chad". It also helps that people don't even realize the Bengals have been 8-8 the last two years and subconsciously can never think of them doing anything other than sucking dick. So if they go 12-4, people will shat themselves over Palmer. That said, if McNabb's injury isn't that bad, and he keeps playing well, he's ALWAYS a strong candidate.

Total yards from scrimmage, actually. That goes for all yard categories.

League MVP: either Shaun Alexander or Donovan McNabb
Sack Leader: Dwight Freeney....but this stat doesn't usually go to high profile players as they are usually decoys
Tackle Leader: Andra Davis is keeping pace, but Thomas may keep stretching the lead further and further by the end of each week
Rushing yards leader: Shaun Alexander....he'll be the most consistant back throughout the year and with Holmes/Johnson and their 2/1 ratio, they won't be in contention. Alexander's major threat would have been Jamal Lewis, but he has yet to find his old self. Cadillac will slow down soon and Willie Peters is Alexanders other remaining who'll slow down as well
Quarterback yards leader: Marc Bulger or Kerry Collins
Receiving yards leader: Steve Smith....he's taking Muhammad's spot from last year and will continue to have big games because Colbert has been MIA. If not Smith, I'll go with Chad Johnson

League MVP - If McNabb manages to finish this season injured and the Eagles go 12 - 4 or better, I'd say he takes it, easily.
Sack Leader - Logic says Freeney, but keep an eye on Julian Peterson
Tackle Leader - tough call. Vilma and Farrior are good picks. Ray Ray is always solid in this category, don't forget they've already had their bye.
Rushing yards leader - LT coming on Strong, and Marty has realized his way in this world is to give the ball to #21, Alexander to be second.
Quarterback yards leader - on System you would think Bulger, but due to that same system he will not finish the season, he'll be injured. Collins is the pick here. Don't be surprised if Manning suddenly takes off and throws for 4500 yds.
Receiving yards leader - Steve Smith is a good Sleeper pick, but I think TO takes this.

Sack Leaders..
2004- Freeney, 2003- Strahan, 2002- Taylor, 2001- Strahan, 2000- Glover, 1999- Carter, 1998- Sinclair, 1997- Randle, 1996- Greene, 1995- Paup.
So basically, in the last decade, every guy who has won the Single Season Sack Title has been to at least three Pro Bowls, with the exceptions of Kevin Carter, Jason Taylor (who has made two) and Dwight Freeney (who will make about 93725 and is undoubtedly a marquee player).
So, um...how about those "high profile decoys"?

I just want to point out that while he may have been a pro bowler Bryce Paup was a spare.

I just want to point out Bryce Paup made four Pro Bowls and was a Defensive Player of the year.

noted. and I want to point out he still wasn't all that. He benifited from playing with great players that the other teams had to over-account for.

Yeah, he played opposite of Reggie White and Bruce Smith. But he was still an incredibly sound technician, a great motor guy, and definitely a "high profile player".

I disagree.
Besides you and I, how many people on here knew his first name was "Bryce" without looking it up?
High-profile means everyone knows who he is.

How many people here were big football fans from 1993-1997? I know a lot of people who know who everything about Dwight Freeney, but have no clue who Deacon Jones is. Was Deacon Jones not "high profile" in his time? "High profile" is relative to time.

Man, I was 10 and knew that Bryce Paup was a pretty series football player at that time, and the extent of my fandom consisted of nuthugging Cris Carter and insisting he was the best receiver in the league because I heart Minnesota. Quit Bryce Paup hating.

Mcnabb's playing with a hernia and some sort of chest problem. he damn well deserves the MVP if he gets as far as last year. Bengals will do well, but choke early in the playoffs due to inexperience in that setting

Chad Johnson is stealing Owens' gimmick of doing different dances in the end zone. Only 1 WR, and that's Owens, spends countless hours infront of a mirror perfecting his technique. Johnson, he just sticks in a Michael Flatley dvd and he's set....un-original

for some reason paup reminds me of a monetarily challenged man's version of kevin greene, maybe its the white linebacker thing.
but anyways oliver is on point here, there was a lot of years when you'd say oh shit team X has kevin greene you know their defense will be good. nobody ever said that about bryce paup. in short: good player, never a wrecking machine (his outrageous '95 aside)
