295lbs today. I'm so pumped. I wasn't even going in for PR, but just had lots of energy and tried. I could have probably gone for 300, but was too pumped up about 295 to think about it. Anyway, yeah.

I don't mind at all.. Besides deadlift, these PRs were set before Christmas.

Bench - 225, 2 rep max.
Squat - 265, 2 rep max
Deadlift - 295, 1RM.

Now since I have a lifting partner, I'm going to retest my other two lifts..

I appreciate your honesty, most guys would come onto a forum and try to bullshit and make themselves appear tough.

Have you been lifting long? What kind of a routine do you follow? How tall are you?

I haven't been lifting real long. Probably 6 months. Before that I would go to the gym and screw around on a body building split, but nothing real serious.

Lately I've been doing a lot of calisthenics. Variations of push-ups, squats, sit-ups, and then some good mornings and neck bridging, etc. Nothing to really increase max strength, because with training I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to lifting.

Now since I have a weight lifting partner, I can use my gym time more efficiently. I can do more singles, negatives, etc. Before, I'd lift alone and could do any of those things because I'd end up killing myself.

To answer your question about my height, I'm 6'6''.

No, I'm not lying about my PRs at all. Eventhough I think they're great for a guy with not very much lifting experience, I'm far from being "strong". I do well in sparring and grappling, but I know there are guys a lot smaller than me who could lift 3 times the weight I do.

Good job. I haven't maxed out in dead lift in a while. Tomorrow are legs, so I'll post it tomorrow.

I just hit a PR in bench today. 235 1RM. That's nearly 15 pounds over my bodyweight, so I'm pretty happy with that. I tried to go for 240 but my weak ass right tricep gave out. Unlucky for me.

For such a big guy you aint lifting too heavy, but at least your being honest

I've only been lifting for strength about 6 or 8 months. I can squat/deadlift and bench more than my bodyweight, so I'm pretty satisfied. If my goals were powerlifting then I'm sure I'd be disappointed.

it's always nice to set a record. i'd be careful about the deadlift though. i see many guys do it, and it's quite easy to injure the delicate stabilizer muscles in your back from it. just ask me. i can't even squat anymore.

How did you end up doing that? Bad form? Too much weight?

I've heard tons of horror stories concerning the DL and that's always in the back of my mind. I try to maintain the best form I can and if I start deviating from that good form than I know I've got too much weight on...

Thanks for the concern, though. I'm pretty surprised, actually.

surprised? the world is bigger than you, and so others are reading these posts. the forum benefits more from advice in a thread like this than mere personal attacks.

and my back problems were a combination of martial arts abuse and squatting.

Have you went to a Sports Therapist yet? In HS I finally had to because my ankles were shit and I'd always sprain them during Basketball games or practice. We tall guys have certain problems that other people don't. I know I grew a megafuckton all at once, which is what caused most of my joint problems.

When you hit the gym, what do you do for lowerbody?

You've got the right idea kcb. The deadlift is a GREAT exercise that gives your body a huge stimulus to grow and get stronger. Approaching it with respect is always the right way ... If you are going to go heavy with it, its a hit or miss lift and keep the reps low and you'll be fine.

uberfighter, what are you doing to try to rehab your back?

People who workout are generally weak.
Unless theyre those workout psychos.

If you train you become naturally stronger, and your muscle is more athletic.

Bad news SnowNigga! Wandy works out with weights regulalry as part of his training *hitler*

edit- not to mention randy, tito, trigg, hughes, just about every successful fighter nowadays, hell even fedor uses kettlebells. But those guys are all weak anyway. Its much better to just keep it old school, its not like you're giving up an advantage to the guys who strength train.

If there is anything that has been learned from mma its that one style isn't ever best, a combination is always better, and that holds true for more than just combat training.

Consider your opinion pwnd

not aggravate it for starters. i can't go to the gym without playing ball, and everytime i play i pay for it. if i lay off of the hard shit it feels better quickly, but i just can't seem to ever rest long enough to give it a chance. right now i just do a lot of stretches...they seem to help. when i think it can handle it i will go back to doing straight legged deadlifts, back extensions, and some plyometrics. hell i probably shouldn't even play golf with it like this, but not playing is worse than the pain for me.

no. i know a pretty good bit about anatomy and physiology, so i have a fair idea what i'm dealing with. being injured is something i'm oh too familiar with. i've been fortunate to go the last two years without a bad sprain, but my ankles both pop nonstop due to prior sprains.

as for the lowerbody workouts, this is my routine

leg press

warmup--20 reps of 315
20 reps of 405
10 reps of 495
10 reps of 585
if i want to push it i'll do a set at 675, but i don't always do that

leg ext/curls

i do a few sets of these in rapid succession to maximize the pump (alternating)

ext--190
curls--150

then i do single leg curl/ext until failure

calf raises---a couple of sets til failure
sometimes i also do straight legged deadlifts. these are great for the hams. i do a couple of sets of 10 at 150 or so.

and if my back hasn't started screaming at me i'll do some squats in an apparatus. a few sets of 10 at 313-405

after all this i see how i feel. if i still feel charged up i will just hop around on different leg machines until i hit the wall (figuratively). i try to get it all done in an hour and a half. i work out alone so i can keep a good pace. i fucking hate talkers in the gym. speaking of which i have to go do legs right now.
