"Wanderlei went to the ring on the ShowFight event in Sao Paulo tonight to announce his fight with Ricardo Arona is confirmed for NYE. Sought out by Graciemag.com?s team, Z? Mario Sperry said Arona is aware."
From a Sherdog poster, take it for what it's worth.
Any others?

Truth. I think it was in the Bas Rutten interview.

Fedor said in his last interview that he'd be fighting an Olympian on NYE, probably Yoshida or Rulon.
I would pay 100 billion dollars to see Fedor maul Yoshida. I hope for Yoshida's sake they have a "don't hurt him too bad" clause built into Fedor's fight contract.

Thanks for that, JTT... I wasn't thinking for a minute.
Anyway, I'd thought that the Kharitonov vs. Werdum match tonight was to decide a #1 contender, or set up for an elimination match versus another guy for the shot (I've heard Nog vs. somebody).
I've also heard that Gomi will fight Mach, and Henderson will fight Bustamente again, but I think both of those are bullshit.

Is this sarcasm? Because if it isn't then it should be (since NYE is also the GP finals).

Arona VS Silva sounds a great rematch. With everyone hugging Silva's nuts and hating Arona the interest is there considering the total pwnage Arona issued last time.
The result is obvious but the bad blood really makes it interesting.

Interesting. I had originally heard November but then the MMA media (MMA Weekly, Sherdog, etc.) talked about fights being at NYE. Maybe they were just making assumptions.
You know what making assumptions makes you....

They don't hold the year end show on NYE anymore right? Just on a date close to that time. I've read they're scheduling the GP finals for that show too.

Shockwave is always on NYE, at least since the first one. Shockwave 2005 makes it the third annual NYE show.

sorry, kid for the first time in his life is gonna get schooled
i feel it... standup kid is better, but i think genki can negate that
look for this one to end by sub, with a slickness
genki too big too skilled for kid ( i didn't say too strong though, i think kid matches him with fury, like a little pit bull)
genki's wrestling is also real good, nobody seems to recognize that cause of his subs, but genki was a world class wrestler as a junior

Tis true about Genki's wrestling background, but Miyata and probably KID are a class above him

And this is infinitely better than KID, who would've gone to the Olympics had he not been simply too damn gangster?
Regardless, the fight is too close to call. And maybe, if Genki wins...just maybe... ...he'll fight a 155 pounder. But I don't wanna start no wacky rumors or nothin'.

There was also a rumor of the winner of CroCop/Barnett fighting big Nog.
If it's Mirko that's great. I'd like to see Mirko/Nog 2 since Mirko's ground game is obviously improved.
If Barnett wins (or won) then I'd just like to see him fight Fedor. Get some new blood in there. Nog had 3 chances, why should any other contenders have to go through him?
I'd also lke to see Aleksander fight Nog or Barnett.

Well, now its' not spoilers, but I'd heard that rumor of Kharitonov fighting an elimination match to finally name a #1 contender, and Cro Cop vs. Nog II.
Additionally, according to some Sherdog posts, DSE wants Ogawa vs. Yoshida, or Yoshida vs. Fedor, as both would be big draws in Japan.
They want to do it to combat K-1, which will also reportedly feature Royce vs. Akiyama(!!!)... WAR FUCKIN' AKIYAMA!!!!!!!!!
DSE is also rumored (as usual) to be seeking Tamura vs. Sakuraba. Maybe why Sakakibara has said Tamura is a turd in interviews this year, trying to rile him up?

Miyata was schooling Sudo with his wrestling. KID's really not that far off despite not sporting the same credentials for obvious reasons. And if by negating (the difference in their stand up levels), you mean running around the ring then sure.
Maybe why Sakakibara has said Tamura is a turd in interviews this year, trying to rile him up?
DSE are being really "friendly" with Tamura and are helping out with the revised U-Style project (backing and sending some big names). Tamura's generally a smart, smart man and he'll do whatever the hell he wants.
As for the fight, despite Sakuraba's *cough* improvement in terms of striking Tamura's still better. Tamura LOVES the lowkick, and I don't think Sakuraba can take too many of those. Then again he might counter him like he did with Shammy. In any case Tamura's the healthier fighter going in and despite being lazy as hell in recent fights I think he could pull it off.

I thought Ogawa was done w/ MMA after the Fedor fight. I've been hearing Fedor/Yoshida around alot lately anyhow.
Any word on who Sergei might be fighting? The only other close contender I can think of is Aleksander. I can't help but wonder if that would go down, and then what if Aleks wins? We get to see the Emelianenko brothers fight? Who are they gonna train with? I know Fedor said in an interview that he would fight anybody so I'm guessing he meant his brother and old teammate as well. Anyhow, it's cool they're doing the #1 contender thing.
I still don't see Tamura stepping up.

Um, cause no one has beat him besides Fedor...Mirko didn't, Sergei didn't, et al.

Yeah but let's take boxing for example. The #1 contender gets a fight w/ the champ and loses. Does the #2 contender then have to fight the guy that just lost before getting his shot? Hell no. There is only one champ. There's no gatekeepers for belts. We could see Nog beat all of the rest of Pride's HWs and then see him get whooped by Fedor like 20 times if we did it that way.
He had his shot and now he falls to the back (or middle of the line). Let's see if anybody else can dethrone Fedor and then let Nog have a shot at them if they are successful. Seeing Fedor/Sergei, Fedor/Aleks (and yes, they said they'd fight), Fedor/Barnett, or even Fedor/Mirko 2 (who took way less damage than Nog ever has vs Fedor) would all be way more interesting than seeing Fedor beat Nog 4 more times. If Nog is given first shot against anybody that might happen to beat Fedor then I'd say that's plenty fair enough.
Besides, I think Nog should fight Aleks before getting another fight w/ Fedor. Let's see if he can at least beat the little brother before taking another beating from the man.

I think that's what's happened, but with the nature of the HW division being what it is (read: small), you're left with two choices...
1) Line everyone up, and just throw them at Fedor in random order. If he beats them all, have him start over from the top.
2) Try to mix and match and generate some buzz around upcoming contenders while also giving a chance to those that fell to prove they're still in it and earn another shot.
Pride's trying to do both, while also working around a champ with a recurrent hand injury.

I agree on all counts. I just think it's silly to say that everybody should have to beat Nog to get a fight w/ Fedor. That's all.

As if that injury really impeded his ability to win a Sambo championship and score a victory, using lots of punching, against Mirko

Miyata was schooling Sudo with his wrestling. KID's really not that far off despite not sporting the same credentials for obvious reasons. And if by negating (the difference in their stand up levels), you mean running around the ring then sure.
of course thats what i meant.... when has genki ever traded or schooled anyone in standup... he runs around and tries not to get hit while catching his opponent off guard.... do you really think i meant stand in and trade and out box him? genki will run, and if it gets hairy, so something wacky like a spinning clinch off the ropes,,, or just clinch
will he catch kid with his standup, no...
will he negate kids standup...yes due to the fact that kid will have to be careful due to genki's ground game, so kid can't just go crazy and try to blast genki into lala land
kid's wrestling is above genki's of course, hence the reason i put that genki was world class as a junior... not world class right now
but its good enough to negate kid and i think even take him down, scramble and capitalize on mistakes... i think in this fight, you may get to see kid on his back for once... im thinking this fight goes out with a sub from sudo...he's too quick, too slick...like maeda says..sneaky
it should make for a great fight, i see lots of scrambling on the ground in this fight
