I don't know what everyone else thought of the event but the only match I got somthing out of was the main event. The night consisted of premature stoppages, decision victories, and Josh vs Mirko.

Am I the only one who feels I didn't get my $30 worth?

This IS the first event in a while in which I was really happy I read the spoilers and downed the fights instead of buying... every org has to have a crappy show every now and then... no worries...

I was just conversating. I didn't think the card looked very good, so I didn't buy it.

i was happily surprised as the show was much better than the spoilers suggested. nothing new to say since my post-event comments in spoilertropilis. jackson showed good aggression and his performance warrants a step back up to fight with the contenders.

the card was seriously pathetic. I am not in the least bit interested in watching rampage vs can ... ninja vs. some guy, fat blick vs nobody, etc etc etc.

name any other heavyweight bouts of this year on the same caliber of Kharitonov vs Werdum and Mirko vs Barnett. and if Murillo Rua did in fact cut to 185 for that fight, it was a damn good showing against a really not so bad 185lb contender. Jackson exhibited a lot of the aggression which he seemed to have been lacking which is promising as well.

the freakshows were a waste of time and i don't wanna say something i can't absolutely substantiate about Sak vs Ken. i think Ken dove, but whatever, i don't care so long as it's over.

Great fighters no doubt. But nothing really memorable.

Come on, this card sets up a Zulu vs. Sapp NYE fight! How couldn't you be excited about the possibility?

can't win em all. this is the first time I didn't order a Pride and UFC back to back though.

And yet, Takimoto vs. YDS was arguably more enjoyable than both put together.

Sad.

What's this all about? Ninja weighed in @ 205 and the Chunky was 198.

Da Juice is a little confused. I think he made that post before it was cleared up in another thread.

Overall... meh. Sergei's performance was a let down. He just didn't look like himself.

Mirko didn't look as crisp as I would have expected either. I think training w/ Werdum might be both helpful and detrimental. Why did he keep going down into Josh's guard? I noticed he and Josh talking alot during the fight too. Work?

An official spends 2 minutes fucking w/ their new fan favorite's trunks and cup after he hits his opponent in the groin (thus allowing him, the guy w/ worse cardio, to get a free breather) and then they call the fight when his trunks fall down. They did a good job on the cover up w/ the knee, but the side official was calling for a stoppage and then w/ all of the confusion right at the stoppage, it's clear what their real reasons were. They just got lucky that fat ass happened to throw a knee as the ref was going in to break it up. Shady shit like this really pisses me off w/ Pride. Too bad for Sentoryu, I admire his heart for fighting these monsters and giving it his all.

The Shamrock stoppage was shitty too. I'm a bigger fan of Sak than of Ken, but it sucks to see a guy train for a couple months, fly across the planet, and then get shorted like that. Had it been reversed they would have let Saku get nearly comatose before stopping it, as they have proven in the past. All of this favoritism really illegitimizes Pride IMO.

I'm a James Thompson fan now. I'd like to see him lay the beating on Zulu's fat ass.

And why the fuck was Barnett all red? He looked like an albino that had been stranded in the desert for a week. Does steroids or HGH do that shit to you?

where did you find the weigh-in transcripts? the only record of weigh-ins i could find was on Sherdog and i don't download their weigh-in videos anymore because i can rarely ever hear what's going on.

and about Barnett's redness. i don't understand how someone that overweight can have that much energy and i'm highly curious what was in his red water bottle. the guy looked like he was on amphetamines.

Mauro always announces the fighters' stats as they are both in the ring and being introduced right before they touch gloves. He said Ninja was 205 and Chunkaev was 198.

Barnett is a chemo lab on legs, and BIG legs at that. He made Mirko's legs look like twigs. The name Baby Faced Assasin doesn't really fit anymore either considering his jaw and chin are wider than my car. His skin tone matched this BK skin rather nicely.

Interesting....it looked to me like he kind of dove in the Franklin fight too at the TUF Finale. Again, I cannot pove anything either but still....

not that i trust Mauro, but i'll take it. if he had dropped weight i'd imagine it would be more a topic of note. he did look unusually lean tho and not particularly more heavy than Chunk.

I haven't seen it yet, but going on what the masses said it wasn't good considering the standards Pride has. I think Bushido 9 could have set too high of a standard for them because it's gonna be hard to match that card.

Horrible. OB hit the spot with PRIDE just looking like a one shady place with the Zulu/Sentoryu and Kenny/Saku. That stuff really pissed me off.

Kharitanov was obviously drunk, Werdum is going to have a ball when he signals Fedor to take the side mount.

Thompson and Barnett gave great after-fights and really boosted their stocks alot in my eyes: admitting what went wrong and having some good 'ol respect. Barnett also showed that CroCop's clinch is from Shooto.

Ninja and Rampage both won in a rather impressive was, but that was expected of them. Takimoto/YDS was rather dandy at times.

Pretty much what was expected of the card. It's not like this is the first round of the MW GP where everyone is shit-stoked about the card beforehand and get a pile of crap. This baby was a pile of crap to begin with.

And Kharitonov fucked up his shoulder, or so I've heard. Would explain a bit.

I were thinking it had to be a rather bad injury, he was in slow motion.

And I'm just salivating on the idea that Werdum would do that "here, take the side mount, just get on the ground"-deal when he eventually faces Fedor. For some reason I don't like him, dunno why.

Oh, and I didn't notice the clinch-part. I were just under the imperssion that CroCop would have thrown a lot more knees on the clinch once he noticed that Barnett really struggles to get him down from the clinch. I guess he didn't find Josh's knees that dangerous, I mean he took around 5 of them to the little-croatians and was not bothered at all by them.

I heard it happened during the fight but he looked slow from the start, even in the stare down he looked like he was on Benadryl or something. Not his usual energetic, aggressive self at all.

The card didn't look as horrible as some of the SD UFC nuthuggers said but the event itself was weak. Sergei, Saku vs. Shamrock, Mirko vs. Barnett. These were the fights that made it to a decent event and none of these fights were any fun. It was Pride's worst event in a very, very long time. I can't say I'm overly disappointed but if I had paid 30 bucks to see it, I would be.

seriously. there were 2 good fights featuring relatively well-matched heavyweight contenders....you won't find that anywhere else. this is the only instance that i can think of in the entire year that one mma event has offered two competitive heavyweight mma fights between legitimate contenders.

I wasn't very excited about that card, either. I've come to expect shitty cards out of UFC; hopefully PRIDE isn't going that route. I think they'll bounce back and get back to their usual quality selves. They've got the talent, so they can only fuck it up for so long before the accidentally stumble across a killer card.
