Video Editing Software, preferably free and easy to use...
So, 10 year anniversary is coming up, and I want to cobble together a bunch of photos and even some video of different events that have happened over the last ten years, to include possibly some bits of movie trailers to make a sort of mock-trailer for our marriage.

Help, suggestions, other such lunacy?

I don't know how easy it is as I haven't used the elements version, but Adobe pretty much has 30 day free trials of all their software. If you aren't going to need it for longer than a month, try adobe premiere elements

I've used premiere pro a decent amount and generally prefer either that or sony vegas. You can get a free trial of pro as well, but I doubt you would need it and premiere elements should do enough for you. You could check around for a trial of Sony Vegas, not sure if there is a free one out there.

You could always go windows live movie maker for something simple and free

I believe it's a full trial, so if you won't need it longer than 30 days, you won't even have to try to stay virus free.
