ATTN: CHH
So long story short, Ive just kinda made my #1 priority training again. Its literally been 2 years since I was in a boxing gym, 5 years since I was any sort of serious about it.
So Im powerlifting 3x a week (workouts are obvious) and then throwing random shoulder workouts into the mix because I want them to be bigger. Thats about 2 hours each session. And Im boxing 3x a week. 2.5 hours each of those days. My weekly routine is 13-14.5 hours, mixed in with working full time too. Im getting ridiculously tired and my knees and shoulders are beginning to show signs of wear and tear. I remember you used to bitch about being constantly tired and worn out back in the day and would love some advice and tricks you used to heal up faster. Also, these injuries are preventable so far, is there anything better than just glucosamine? Im taking too many vitamins right now as it is (the "svend karlsson" vitamin mix, Copper, zinc, multi, C, omega 3 and BCAA. Stole the mixture from an icelandic strongman).

Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM never really did shit for my joints.
BSP Pharma's Flexnow gave me joint relief within 6 weeks.

I tried an expensive US import joint supplement that was crap, I take Cod Liver Oil, a generic glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin complex everyday. I also take Manchurian ginseng when I feel really run down - good stuff.
Rikki, you cant fight age bro also.

2 hrs of powerlifting is counterproductive unless you're on roids. A good weight training session should not last more than 30-45 minutes of intense workout.

And if you are hitting your shoulders 3 times a week with heavy weights, the shoulder muscle's endurance might improve but the muscle itself will become smaller overtime.

The factors that made the biggest improvement in my health and well being are as follows
1) Sleep 10 hours every night, no alarm clock wake-up 2) Eat a ton of good food 3) Do soft tissue work and low intensity movement dailiy. I have a PVC pipe and golf balls to roll, and I do Yoga stretching every morning, usually try to take a walk or shoot some basketball too daily. 4) Train much much much less intensely. Yesterday my entire workout, I shit you not, consisted of a warm-up of 15 minutes of leglock drilling (to help a new guy, or I never would have done it) 50-60 KB swings (52 pounds) 10 T-Getups (same 52 pounder) and then my work sets of: *Deadlift 135x3 *225x1 *315x1 *385x1 *385xfail 30 pound barbell curls supersetted with pushups *10 curls x 10 pushups *10 curls x 10 pushups *6 curls x 10 pushups done Even with talking, it took me 30 minutes or less. And I still feel tired as hell today. Unless you want to take juice, you have to listen to your body and dail back your activity and ramp up your recovery. There's no magic bullet you can take to make you feel 18 again. |

Also, that workout is still pretty intense compared to what normal people do.

I don't have a lot of experience with supplements to be honest. My protein has a vitamin and mineral additive in it, but honestly, it's the only supplement I take or have taken for the last 2-3 years. I've used creatine and a few other things, but I've never noticed a huge difference one way or the other.
I think most of my essentials, I get through a diet of veggies and various types of meat. If you talk to anyone who's been training for a really long time, they tend to have a very meager work outline, but most of them (like myself) have no plan for normal training days. They just listen to their body. That's the key man, just listen to your body. I was going to squat the other day, did one set of 3 with an empty bar, didn't feel the groove (due to a relatively fresh hip injury) and switched to deadlifts instead. Why? I dunno, it just felt right. Why did I only do 6 reps of curls on my last set? My elbows started banging, and it just felt right. This is something I've even talked about with the pros. Randy Couture told me the MOST important thing he ever did for his training was do easy sessions/take days off when he felt beat up. The training doesn't make you better, strictly speaking it makes you weaker and worse at fighting. It's the recovery that makes you better. If you're not getting enough recovery, the training is futile. |

I just spent 2 hours boxing. Gonna go do some deadlifts. 405 lbs 5x5 and maybe throw in the KONY workout afterwards ( masturbating in public).
Remember the conversation we had on fb, squabbs. Yea, Im not gonna comment further.

The best ive done was 465x2. The first time i tried deadlifting since i really got into lifting, i couldnt get 315 off the ground, built it up to 465 then basically lost my gym membership and stopped dead lifting for awhile.
I've lost 60lbs since then though and dont dead lift as much. 405 is pishin it now.

No matter how elite the athlete, barbell curls somehow find a way into the training regimen,

From here, only Irish AFAIK.
P.S. not to stir the pot, but the powerlifting community would probably disagree with you classifying a push/pull meet as a powerlifting competition.
