anybody see the commercials for the new Spike tv show about the NBA rookies? something i'll be tuning into. I like seeing how the rookies make their way through the season. now we get to see how Okafor reacts after each night and each bobcats loss

yeah i did see that actually. looks pretty interesting. Spike TV is doing good things with reality TV, rather than the typical shit you see on FOX and such.

I just heard on sportscenter that Shaq is paying for all expenses for the George Mikan funeral....the family accepted

whether you like Shaq as a player, you have to like his off-court side

That and also they were both part of the Laker's family. That was what I read on ESPN.com. Mikan played for the Minneapolis Lakers and Shaq for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Shaq is truly larger than life on the court and off. I can't think of any player in the NBA who will be able to match his dominance on the court, and his humor, charisma and humility off the court.

yeah, i get a kick out of people that live around me that automatically assume "well phil's back, it's just a matter of time before the championships start rolling in."

no doubt phil's an improvement over frank hamblen, but there is too much wrong with this team right now to think that having a great coach (albeit one of the greatest of all time) will get them back to the championship. unless they pull off some drastic trade (which is virtually impossible for them to do with the salary cap) i see phil taking them to the first round of the playoffs and that's it for the year, and thinking that they'll even make it that far is probably just optimism on my part.

one nice thing this time around is that phil will probably have more leverage against kobe. before it was kinda like "well, we have to consider what kobe wants, he's our golden child." and it's pretty much gotten to the point where it's like "fuck you kobe, if you don't like it you can quit and spend your days raping white women."

there's not an actual salary cap in the NBA, but there is a luxury tax for going over a certain amount. If you're willing to pay it then there's no problem.
