MMA Betting 101 brought to you by NickCR

Here's A Quick Look At How MMA Odds Work:

The above odds are based on what is known as "A money line"

Money line - odds expressed in terms of money. With money odds, whenever there is a minus (-) you lay that amount to win a hundred dollars, where there is a plus (+) you get that amount for every hundred dollars wagered.

Money line betting is simply wagering on the contest based on a given price. In MMA this means the fighter wagered on has to win the fight outright.

* The minus sign (e.g .-130) always indicates the favorite and the amount you must bet to win $100.

* The plus sign (e.g.+110) always indicates the underdog and the amount you win for every $100 bet (you may wager more or less).

* Using this example, therefore, you would bet $130 to win $100 on the favorite, while for the underdog you would bet $100 to win $110.

In the context of the MMA event odds above:

TUF 4 Finale:
Chris Lytle -145
Matt Serra +125

CHRIS LYTLE is currently @ -145 this means you have to bet $145 to win $100. If you win, the original risk of $145 & also the $100 you won gets added to your account. For a total return of $245.

MATT SERRA is currently @ +125 this means you have to bet $100 to win $125. If you win, the original risk of $100 & also the $125 you won gets added to your account. For a total return of $225.

If the fight ends in a draw, no contest or it simply does not happen, you will get your money back.

I thought this was a good of a place as any to post this. A page that shows lines from a bunch of sites. Not trying to cramp Nick's style or nothing... he's my man. Just found this interesting and thought it was worth sharing. And BOF is included on here w/ a link BTW. I'm not sure yet how often it's updated but right now it looks pretty good.
