Like for example, the scene about the girl being unable to have a baby, obviously a HUGE part of the story line. It was one of the most important concepts in the movie, but how was it revealed to us?

"well......I can't have a baby" *cue crying*

Because in real life, that's exactly what would happen. Life doesn't start and stop because cameras start rolling, and in real life people don't react how you THINK they should react just to explain something you should already know.

Sometimes they've already got it figured out, or just flat out couldn't give a shit less. Yeah no one gave a shit that the girl was covered in blood...who fucking cares, they're about to go meet GOD HIM-FUCKING-SELF! Who gives a shit about your self-inflicted C-section.

That being said, the death scene was awful. Not just from a "turn left" stand-point.......but fuck....it's a massive, hulking, 2000 fucking year old piece of metal that just had another intergalactic space ship rammed into it full fucking speed. Why didn't it break apart? Jesus. I wanted to see at least one epic nuclear fucking explosion. You're telling me that they couldn't have orchestraed the same exact scene just with billions of pieces of space ship flying through the air, one of which hits Charlize Theron? Argh.....

I think that's how I choose to remember that scene from now on. Much improved.

Still they needed some of the ship intact so the engineer could chase after Shaw and not just go launch the other ship. Because if he showed half a brain he never would have gotten impregnated for the Alien tie-in.

OK fair enough. They don't care. But don't you think she would have been like...UMMMM, there's a giant fucking alien that came out of me in the ship. This might not be good. How did it get there?!

I really have trouble with everyone ignoring all that.

PS: Got got pwned by a giant worm. What does that say about him?

I can finally read this thread now.

I went away with more questions than answers. I'm a Lost fan so I don't mind that much, but it's annoying when it's a movie because I'll have to wait probably a year for answers and that's assuming it sums everything up for me. Who knows. Maybe there will be a 3rd movie and even more questions.

I appreciated the allegory and metaphor. A lot of it I got during the movie but some of it I missed.

Overall, it was just okay for me.

Saw this yesterday for the second time. It was awesome. Some underlying themes i could identify

Self sacrifice vs selfishness

creation as a consequence of destruction

creationism vs evolution

Space jesus

Now that the blu-ray and all the deleted scenes are out, what do you guys think?

Finally watched this. Movie felt like it was all over the place. Lots of wasted potential.

Watched it again. I missed a few things before... when they land on the planet, someone is a holding a weapon and Shaw says "This is a scientific expedition. No weapons.". You just landed on a planet that clearly has something that someone quite intelligent had to built, yet you don't want to be able to defend yourself? I'm quite drunk but this doesn't make a lot of sense.

Watched the deleted scenes last night and have a couple of thoughts.

When news leaked out that Ridley Scott was making a prequel to Alien it seems like they over-reacted trying to make the film less like Alien in the hopes of a big reveal pay-off at the end. This was pretty stupid as a lot of cool proto-alien stuff was cut for no reason other than to distance themselves from a great original flick.

* finding the shedded skin
* the original design for the infected geologist

The chat between David, Weyland and the Engineer makes a lot more sense. People were speculating that David might have said something to set the engineer off and kill Weyland, but he also got himself beheaded. Weyland's hubris invoking the engineer's response makes much more sense here.

The extended fight scene between Shaw and the Engineer shows some interesting personality for the engineer, but the continued beating Shaw takes is already implausible, so cutting it makes sense.

The tree angry version scenes (Vickers Weyland, Shaw Halloway, and Shaw David) are good cuts. Each character comes off less likable when portrayed as angry.

Still about 8 hours of stuff I haven't watched on the disc.

I think the only disappointment I have is that these "professionals" stupid moves are not excused or explained in the expansion. How the richest man in the world puts together a geologist/mapper who gets lost, a biologist who can't spot a cobra, and a daughter who can't make turns is beyond me. How does a deeps space trucking crew fare better in Alien than these guys is still a mystery.
