The J-Max tournaments have generally been pretty fucking exciting for the past few years, however nothing about this really has me interested.

I think Sato takes the tournament in convincing fashion.

Buakaw/Zambidis has 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 for Buakaw written all over it. Buakaw is a bad match-up for Iron Mike, in my opinion. Will be frustrating as fuck to watch.

On a side note, whatever happened to the dude that went all out against Kozo in the 2004 J-Max, but didn't answer the bell for the second round. Was it Ogata or something???

Yes, it was Ogata.

Thing about the J-MAX is that it was always about real fighters... And by that I mean strikers. Sure, they might've come from different backgrounds and disciplines but does anyone actually want to see a boxer that's not that well versed in kick against a MMA fighter?

The interesting thing is Remi is scheduled with K-1 MAX February 4th and ZST February 18th.

IMO, I think this is one of the best J-MAX brackets, with a lot of young fresh talent and no Kohiruimaki. I only wish Takehiro Murahama was here to fuck someone up

The fact that there hasn't been any Max action in like two and a half months, the fact that I was probably in a bad mood when I originally posted in this thread and the fact that I re-thought my intial assessment.

Buakaw/Zambidis is an interesting match-up, despite the fact that I see it as a bad match-up for Zambidis. Zambidis always has the KO factor that is present in every fight and makes you not want to miss a fucking second of it. The thing that pisses me off the most about Zambidis is that he never seems to change up his style and relies too much on the dynamite in his right hand. Whether or not he studies his opponents, he seems to have no gameplan when he goes out there rather than his usual 'throw hard devestating punches at his head' (To quote Mr Phil Baroni). I see Buakaw cruising to the UD, but when Zambidis is fighting anything is possible.

Remi is just flat out psycho. How could you not be pumped about seeing this guy fight? Especially when you are pretty much guaranteed a violent 1st Rd TKO.

I am also one of these guys who is not afraid to admit my man-crush on the Silver Wolf. This scares the fuck out of my friends, but I don't care, the dude is just flat out hot shit. Apart from that, I love watching him fight, a great technician with a great chin and plenty of ticker. He is fighting an Aussie though which adds even more interest as well as a conflict of interest. I have heard that Schaffer has impressed in training, but I don't give a fuck, Masato takes a very comfortable UD.

As for the tournament, this is probably what I was referring to when I declared my lack of interest. I think Sato UD's his way through the tournament to book a spot in the opening round. I am hoping that Hayato can prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Either way, the J-Max events have always provided some great highlights. I hope this year's doesn't disappoint ...

Hayato will soo get pwned if he fights Sato. He can't take constant pressure like Sato gives and has already proven incompetent against taller fighters. He beat that Black Mamba guy on a desperation spinning backfist which redeemed the hard ownage he was victim to prior to that. Sato has a damn good chin and will beat his ass.

Sato's been dropped before, mostly by elbows but HAYAT0 throws some mean straight punches (when he's not fucking around/getting beat up). He destroyed the Thai fighter he faced in the Japan vs. Thailand series (was the only one that won - Ogata lost as well) which earned him a ranking at Rajadamnern. I think that it's silly to say that he's proven incompetent against taller fighters when he's lost to a whole plethora of fighters. He's still improving which is remarkable.

People should pay more attention to TATSUJI, he's the best boxer in the tournament and now that he's learned how to kick as well he's a force to be reckoned with. The opponents he beat in the D.O.A. tournament were of the same calibre (excluding Sato) - Garyu, Hakuto as those in this GP.

Speaking of Garyu, his fight with Morkevicius is very interesting. We all know Mork throws with the intent to kill but he's been wobbled by mere jabs and let me tell you, Shingo can throw some leather.

Be glad that you're not subjected to a bloated Murahama anymore. It's obvious that super-welter is not the place for him to be. Sad to see if you know what he once was.

Can't rally behind Tatsuji, I've seen dick all of the DOA tourney so when he makes finals you have full rights to call me sleeping.

How big is Garyu? How much bigger than Mork is he?

I'm also ignorant of Murahama's Shootboxing career if thats what you're referring to, but from what I've seen of him @ 70kg, he's awesome in my eyes: KOing Hayato, giving Masato a damn HARD fight, etc.

Unfortunately I'm only familiar mostly with the guys in the superfights... if anyone can give some pointers re which K-1 Max events to check out to get a better feel for the promotion and some of its major fighters it'd be much appreciated.

(For Masato's hotness, plus I think only one or two fights go to the judges)

2003 Oceania Qualifying Tournament
(The only names you may recognize in this tourny are Zambidis and Parr, but they meet in the final and put on one of, if not THE, best fight in Max history)

2004 World GP
(To see the dominant performance by Buakaw and to scream 'What the fuck?' when the judges call for another round in he final)

2002 J-Max
(This event just rocks, great fights top to bottom)

2004 J-Max
(Not really a popular choice amongst others but I think this event is very entertaining)

2005 World GP Opening Round
(Only to see Zambidis knock the fuck out of Kid, the rest of the event wasn't the best)

You may also want to see if you can download Kid/Masato from Dynamite 2004 somewhere, awesome fight. Just fast forward through all the time-outs from low-blows.

In conclusion though, there are not many Max shows where I have though to myself 'Wow, that sucked'.
