OFFICIAL NHL 2006/07 thread.
The season starts wendesday, and there isn't a thread, so I figure I'd start one.
So, Alfuh, are the Devil's actually going to get under the salary cap? I do love how they're paying Mogilny like 7 million to play in the minors though. I'm loving Luongo in net. Great fucking pick up, and I guess we're keeping Bourdon, which is a good idea. Anyways, have at it. It'd also be great if a mod could sticky this.

They damn well better get under cap because I drafted Gionta in my other fantasy league last night and he's one of the guys they need to sign. Getting rid of Malakhov was a good step, but they might have fucked themselves with Mogilny. I didn't like when they brought him back at all. With so many good young players and they picked up an old flaky Russian that shows up every fourth game or so.
Here are some predictions- Team that everyone overlooks that will kick major ass this year: Nashville Team that will underacheive, again: Tampa How the mighty have fallen: Colorado Goalie set to have a huge year: Lundqvist Comeback kid: Guerin Scoring title: I'll go out on a limb and say Rick Nash MVP: Too many forwards to choose from so I'll say Kiprusoff Most points: Thornton

Anaheim? Nein, their goaltending is too suspect. Unless Bryzgalov steps up big time this season. Giguere had that brilliant playoff run and has been slightly above average since.
I'm going to go with Ottawa, they have two young forwards who are really coming into their own with Heatley and Spezza (this will be the year Spezza takes off like a racehorse) and a new solid goalie. I'll agree with Malkin though, I just thought it wasn't a crazy enough prediction to list.

Thorton will probably get the most points, I'll agree with that. Something like 125. With 110 of them being assists. Malkin though, it depends on how he comes back from his shoulder injury. Those things can reoccur quite often and be very bothersome. Signing Mogilny to that contract was New Jersey's Charles Wang move. You guys really really need to sign Gionta though; he had a great year last year. Who else do you think they're going to unload if they can't get rid of Mogilny's salary?

No Winnipeg takers?
:P Seriously though, I wish they would do better so I can be proud when I get out to see them in Glendale my next vacation. Instead I am stuck out here in NC with the Champs. Hope my friend gets the tickets he promised me.

holy shit, the season starts tomorrow?! i was thinking it was still a week or two away.
well, the kings are building for the future, which means they're going to suck ass this year. on the bright side, since i already know they're going to blow, at least i won't be heartbroken when they do and i'm sure it'll be fun to watch some of the young guy's develop.

SI thinks the Flames are going to win the cup? Methinks I made a good decision when I didn't renew my subscription many years ago.

i'm quite perturbed that the king's are halfway through their second game and alexander frolov only has one shot on goal. if the kings are going to win any games this year he's going to have to step up. i keep hearing about how he's going to be this great player, but i'm starting to question if he'll ever be better than a 2nd liner.
and just as i'm typing this he sets up lubo visnovsky perfectly for a goal and the kings pull ahead.

edit: i guess ANZE tipped it in and frolov only gets the assist, but still...

ok, i guess frolov DID get the goal. first the gave him the goal, then a minute or two later they credited it to anze, with frolov getting an assist, but when i checked the box score after the game they had changed it back to frolov getting the goal and anze getting the assist.

Sharks win again. Nabokov records a shutout in his first game of the season. I think he's gonna have a very good year, if he stays healthy.
Bell pwned the shit out of the boards with his face.

Hopefully Bergeron and Stuart will develop into leaders on that team because they don't have much else going for them.

Well that ain't too much.
I just laughed Rick Dipietro's 15 year contract, but our goalies ain't any better so 8-3 result started look pretty bad. |

Vancouver needs to stop taking penalties, or learn to penalty kill better.
Luongo is fucking awesome, as I expected, and our offense is coming along better then I thought.
