I'm tired of rolling with people from my gym.

1.) They don't know what soft rolling is (rolling at around 40-60%). We'll start out that way, but if I happen to get them in a submission, then they're going 100% until they catch me in something.

2.) Egos. This kind of ties in with #1. This one guy will hardly ever tap and leaves the gym with a hurt arm, knee, or ankle every class. Additionally, if he happens to catch you in something, he will not let go until you're clawing the back of his gi.

"I didn't feel you tap!"

Bullshit. It's an ego thing.

3.) Because of #1 and #2 I'm always getting injured. I let this one kid get me in a shoulder lock and after I tapped he torqued it one good time. I'm icing my shoulder and downing Asprin still.

4.) I seem to look like the bad guy. Because I'm tired of number 1, 2, and 3 sometimes I lose my cool and strike a little harder than 60%, thus leaving welts or busting some kids lip. I look like the out of control one when really I'm just reacting to this moron trying to pull a UFC 2 on my ass.

My trainer is a stand-up guy and I've been working with him for a while, but it's really occured to me to maybe find some place else to train after my fight in May (if it happens). His class is growing and growing and he doesn't seem to know how to handle the knuckle heads.

You guys ever experienced anything like this?

Yea...from time to time. Just stick with it, if that place is legit. Noobies will learn how to train more effectively over time...and then there will be another crop of noobs.

Also, try to teach them some things...and help them learn. I think that you can learn alot from just teaching, and going over the basics.

I'd try to find a better school. I know a boxer guy who guys 130% the entire time. No matter what you're doing. Boxing, rolling, drills whatever, this guy is balls to the wall. The last time I rolled with him, despite the fact that he had no clue what he was doing, he was doing it 100%

I just use it as a relation opportunity. I chill waiting for him to get 1/2 step behind himself, then I tap him. Pretty easy honestly. If EVERYONE at your school is like that though, you should find a new school.

It's not everyone, just the people I get to roll with (200lbs or above).

The newbies probably have a ego problem, like you said. I had the same problem, since 90% of the people I train with are bigger then me, they don't like it when I tap them out. Over time their ego is diminished and they begin to accept it.

Like, I'll go in with a mindset that I'm just going to work leg locks, arm bars, chokes, etc that day and my whole plan gets ruined by some TKD drop-out that wants to perform a flying armbar.

Tell your instructor, and have him watch when you guys roll. If they are going nuts when he is watching and he doesn't stop it and say something to them, then you should find a new school.

I always get this, because i'm quite small and resonably new all the new guys with chips on their shoulders end up sparring with me early on. So i start off quite calm, pull guard don't do anything to agressive but as soon as i have an attempt at a sweep or sub i get some nob-head going beserk at me. It generally ends in them tapping a few times and me not learning anything new. Generally a lot of said nob-heads don't tend to come back that often so i'm alright with it.

So kcb i guess this sorta thing happens at most places, just try and find a few good sparring partners and stick with them when you get the opportunity.
