Juanito: Silva and Shogun had "extra help" beating Rampage

I asked Juanito about the recent additions of Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to the UFC. Silva beat Rampage twice and Rua also holds a victory over him. Those fights were held in the PRIDE ring in Japan. Juanito said he believes Silva and Rua had "extra help" when they fought Rampage. He didn't spell out exactly what that extra help was. But our conversation quickly turned to the fact there was no athletic commission or steroid testing when they fought in Japan. Juanito said the outcome will be much different when they meet in the U.S.

Juanito said he won't allow any of his fighters to use supplements, creatine or any other concoctions even if they are sold over the counter. He wants his fighters to be clean. If anybody brings any strange supplements into his camp, he said he will kick them off the mountain. He even monitors everything they eat.

Kind of fucked up for him to say w/o anything to back it up, seems like he's bitter that his fighter got destroyed. What a piece of shit to throw around accusations like that... it could easily go the other way about Rampage who was also a PRIDE fighter in Japan for a very long time.

Also has some interesting info about Rampage possibly hooking up to train w/ Bisping when he gets to England and Bisping possibly hooking up w/ Juanito and Rampage to train in the states. Also says he's shopping a Rampage reality show to MTV, Spike and A&E.

Second half of the article is about Hendo who says Sokoudjou might end up in K-1 on the Sept. card and he doesn't sound too happy that Rampage hooked up w/ Couture to train.

Pretty retarded for him to say that in that way. First of all, juicing wasn't against the rules and allegedly isn't even illegal in Japan.

Secondly, the best way to present the situation (if it's true) is to say that Page never did any steroids even though it wasn't prohibited and provide proof of this.

Otherwise, it just looks like he's making excuses and Page looks bad by proxy.

I don't think what Juanito inferred about Silva and Rua was any worse than what Dan said about Randy.

Dana was a hardass for insisting this fight be exactly when he knew Dan was expecting a baby. I wonder if there was any bias towards Rampage involved in that decision.

I disagree. Juanito basically accused them of being on steroids or some kind of performance enhancers... some people might not look at them the same anymore. Some newer people to the sport may read that article at some point and having never heard or seen anything on Silva or Shogun just take it as gospel. As for what Hendo said about Randy, it's not bad in the sense that it won't effect his career, people won't look at what he's accomplished any differently... basically it'll have no effect on what he's accomplished in the fighting world. There's a number of ways people can take what Hendo said about Randy, maybe they don't know their history and just think Rampage and Couture are closer there's only one way to take what Juanito said about Silva and Shogun.

They both played their part in fucking up a fight Dana had been trying for years to make so... maybe.

Sounds like Dan kinda got screwed, if true. First Dana screwing him on the date of his fight, then Couture helping out Quinton. Not to mention he's already got a bit of a disadvantage fighting Quinton in the first place, in my opinion. I like both fighters, but I think Henderson will lose this one. He's a great guy, met him in person, and he deserves equal treament from the UFC.

Oh well, maybe he'll move down to 185 if he loses, he'd be a welcome addition there.

He's in a tough spot, no doubt but he was in a tough spot at PRIDE 33 and he came out on top. He performs better when the odds are stacked against him. I think Rampage pulls it out though Hendo's best shot is clinching up w/ Rampage... will be interesting to see if Rampage developed a defense for it, if not he's in trouble. But I think Rampage wears Hendo down for a stoppage in the third or fourth round.

Win/lose Hendo has to go back to down to 185 at some point... I doubt he would give anything up w/o a fight.

And I don't think Couture "screwed" Hendo over anything like that. He's just helping Rampage out, I doubt he's giving away Hendo's secrets and weaknesses... that'd be screwing him over. He's just a professional helping out a co-worker in a sense... Hendo's not dumb he shouldn't have said that but I understand.

I hear ya but I don't think anything he hinted at will have any major effect on their careers. It's simply a trainer who is bitter towards a couple guys that beat the snot out of his main man. Anybody who took it seriously (w/out any concrete proof) are probably the same knuckleheads that have been accusing Silva of juicing for years now.

And who knows, maybe Ibarra has some insider info and was simply planting a seed but didn't want to go into any details or naming a source.

This is only one side of a very vague story. Eventually this will be translated for the Chute Boxers and we're sure to get some kind of rebuttal.

The interesting thing to me will be who passes post-fight and who doesn't.

Ahem... whenever they are in the UK it's up to the UFC to test their own fighters. I don't think anybody has failed over there yet. If they have it's been kept undercovers.
