Hybrid Combat Promotions: H1

BLOODYKNUX.COM EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE

HYBRID COMBAT PROMOTIONS PRESENT: H1

Gatineau, Quebec, Canada has been treated to a new amateur mixed martial arts organization. Hybrid Combat Promotions made their first show one for the record books as the sold out crowd at the Pere Aurthur Guertin arena, was treated to an amazing night of MMA. The event had everything from first round knockouts and submissions, to all out wars that ended in razor thin decisions. One thing is for sure; Hybrid MMA made an impact on the sport in Canada after just one night of action.

Rules for this amateur show were as follows. Rounds were to last 2 minutes, with one minute breaks between rounds. 10oz open fingered gloves were used, as well as shin pads. No knees, jumping side kicks, slams, or elbows on the ground.

Special note: Exclusive video coverage of some of the fights were given to bloodyknux.com! Play by Play for Josee Aupry vs Anna Barone, Steve Alexopolous vs Andre Larocque, and Chris Rossi vs Andrew Del Dagan were not written out as we have the full fight videos for each of these fights!

Udi vs Yusuf El-Z 130lbs

Round 1

Yusuf comes out throwing big shots coming right out the gates. The first round is a lot of back and forth action when Udi gets the better of a scramble on the ground and gains side control over Yusuf and gives some light ground and pound. Yusuf gives up his back during another scramble and Udi tries for a rear naked choke. He has trouble sinking it with the large 10oz gloves they use for the amateur shows and can’t finish the submission. Yusuf spends the last of the round defending submissions.

Swaine scores round 1 10-9 for Udi.

Round 2

Round one shows Udi trying to come out strong as he throws a big head kick and misses. The fighters tie up and both bring each other to the ground. During the scramble Yusuf gives up his back and Udi stretches Yusuf out. After trying once again to sink in choke Udi decides to try and free up his now tied hands to rain down punches. After some nice ground and pound, and Yusuf not being able to shake off his attacker, referee Thierry Quenneville calls the fight late into round two.

Udi over Yusuf El-z by way of TKO in the second round

Coady Yach vs Matthew Annett 185lbs.

Round 1

Coady wastes no time in his MMA debut as he quickly takes down Matthew Annett and lands in side control. After some nice ground and pound, Coady quickly moves from side to full mount and starts raining down hard punches. The referee stops the fight at 1:19 into the first round.

Coady Yach wins via tko round 1.

Ghislain St-Denis vs Anthony D’Ambrosio 185lbs

Round 1

Ghislain comes out swinging hard and Anthony has none of it as he takes a nice double leg in the opening few seconds. Ghislain tries hard to free himself up to do some damage while Anthony keeps him tight in side conrol.
After a brief moment of no action the fighters stand up and after another brief exchange Anthony takes Ghislain again. Round ends and the fights head to their corners.

Swaine scores round 1 10-9 for Anthony

Round 2.

Going for the same dominating take downs as he had in round 1, Anthony goes for a big double leg, but during the take down is caught in a guillotine choke. After a brief moment of looking to try to escape, Anthony taps out 25 seconds into round 2.

Ghislain St-Denis wins by way of guillotine choke round 2.

Chad Petepiece vs Dustin Ashford 170 lbs

Round 1

After a brief exchange on the feet the fighters tie up. Both fighters throw tight punches and remain tied up fighting for control of the ring. Finally the fighters break after and Chad starts to stalk Ashford. Chad throws multiple hard leg kicks that start to take its toll on Ashford’s legs as he throws multiple haymakers while charging in to tie up Petepiece. The fighters break a part again, and Petepiece throws more big leg kicks. Ashford throws a leg kick of his own that looks to hit Petepiece in the knee. Ashfords face lights up with pain as he limps backwards into his corner, Petepiece continues to stalk Ashford but doesn’t take advantage of the hurt fighter. Chad finally starts to throw big kicks to the injured Ashford, but Ashford takes the punishment and throws shots back of his own. Round 1 ends and the fighters return to their corners.

Swaine scores round 1 10-9 for Chad Petepiece.

Round 2

Show Ashford coming out throwing hard and fast. Petepiece maintains his composure and continues with the big leg kicks, which are visibly taking their toll on Ashford’s legs. Ashford continues to throw the majority of the punches and Chad stalks him into corners and continues with leg kicks. After getting Ashford cornered Petepiece throws a leg kick that takes Ashford right off his feet.

Swaine scores round 2 10-9 for Petepiece

Round 3

Petepiece comes out looking calmer and starts exchanging with his hands more fluidly. Ashford continues his forward charging with big looping punches, a good game plan to take away the damage he has been receiving to his legs. Dustin still lands more of the punches, but Chad continues to stalk and use big kicks to score points for himself. In the final 30 seconds of the fight Chad throws a massive head kick that lands, Dustin reacts by screaming and yelling “Come on” and both fighters start to tee off on each other. Great end to this fight.

Swaine scores round 3 10-9 for Petepiece

Chad Petepiece defeats Dustin Ashford via Unanimous decision.

Ralph Jean-Pierre David vs Tyler Wilson

David comes out looking crisp and quick as both fighters start throwing big shots. Wilson grabs David and tries to tie him up to control the damage coming from his striking. Both fighters throw big kicks and Referee Clint Kingsbury gives David a warning for throwing an illegal side kick. Tyler throws a big kick to the body and lands a nice kick to the face. Wilson goes for the take down and David shrugs it off. David throws another illegal side kick and is given a second and final warning from the ref. David then throws a big head kick, which sees Wilson lean forward in pain. David capitalizes and introduces his shin to Wilsons face, ending the fight via knock out in the first round.

Ralph Jean-Pierre David wins via Knock out 1:50 into the first round.

Mike Riley vs Derek Dexter 130lbs

Both of these fighters came into this bout undefeated. The fight starts off with a brief exchange on the feet finding Dexter landing the better of the shots. Dexter takes down Riley and Riley starts to show his terrific ground game, locking up a triangle choke and looks to finish the fight. Dexter lifts Riley off the ground in rememorance of Rampage vs Arona, but because of amateur rules, he cannot slam Riley to the mat. He lowers Riley, who immediately transitions into a beautiful arm bar, and Dexter is forced to tap with 1 second left in the fight.

Mike Riley wins via arm bar at 1:59 into the first round.

Kenny Hiltz vs Fabien Dorion

Round 1

Kenny Hiltz comes out looking for a takedown as he looks to show off his BJJ to the crowd. Dorian does a great job keeping Hiltz controlled and tied up to minimize damage. Hiltz consistently looks to move position, and free up his arms for striking. Dorian continues to do a great job of keeping Hiltz tied up, but isn’t moving to better his position in the process.

Swaine scores round 1 10-9 Hiltz

Round 2.

Hiltz comes out singing the same song in the second round. Hiltz takes down Dorian and consistently puts pressure trying to move to better positions. Dorian goes out under the ropes and the fighter restart standing. Hiltz again takes Dorian to the mat, and again puts down the pressure. This time his hands are free and Hiltz throws strikes into Dorian’s face. Dorian regains his composure and ties up Hiltz.

Swaine scores round 2 10-9 for Hiltz.

Round 3

Same story as round 1 and 2. Hiltz takes down Dorian, and Dorian ties up Hiltz arms. Hiltz manages to free his hands up long enough to do some damage to Dorian’s face, who is now bleeding from the nose. The referee stops the action and asks to get Dorian’s face cleaned up. Upon restart Hiltz takes down Dorian again, but this time the take down is so hard that both fighters literally bounce off the mats. Hiltz again shows he’s dominant on the ground and maintains his top position.

Swaine scores round 3 10-9 Hiltz

Kenny Hiltz wins via Unanimous Decision

Matthew Richardson over Jeff Laughren by way of TKO in the first round 185lbs

Round 1

Both fighters touch gloves and Laughren throws a big kick to Richardson’s body, then takes Richardson’s back from standing and takes him down. Richardson rolls and gives up his back as the fighters scramble. Richardson then gets the better of yet another scramble and goes from side control to full mount. Richardson postures up and starts to rain down punches onto Laughren’s face. Laughren, looking overwhelmed stops protecting him self and just eats a punch buffet. The ref quickly stops the action and calls the fight 1:26 into the first round.

Matthew Richardson wins via tko round 1

Daryl Hartley vs Josh Brown

In the Co-main event Josh Brown comes out and immediately wins over the crowd. I’ve never seen an entrance like this ever while covering a live MMA event. Brown looks ready to go as he’s throwing money all over the place and dancing and rapping to his walk in music.

Daryl Hartley comes out with what looks like everyone on earth that didn’t have a chair at the event, as he has an entourage larger than the Gracie family.

Round 1

Brown extends his hand to touch gloves and Hartley ignores it and decides throwing a punch to Browns face would be a better idea. Hartley tries to control Brown as he doesn’t want anything to do with his stand up. After a long time of being tied up and failed take down attempts from Hartley the ref restarts the fight. Hartley lands a nice kick to Brown’s body. Not much action in the first round.

Swaine scores round 1 10-9 for Hartley

Round 2

Both fighters come out and Brown is light on his feet, showing fluid footwork and Brown throws big shots and tags Hartley with multiple blows. Brown starts throwing big uppercuts and lands one. Hartley charges forward and finally gets the take down he was looking for in round 1. Brown stays very active from the bottom and looking for submissions while Hartley tries to free himself up to do some damage from the top. The ref stops the fight after a very brief moment of no activity and starts the fighters from standing. Brown takes advantage of this and starts to throw very nice combinations together and picks apart Hartley on the feet. Hartley charges forward and again takes down Brown.

Swaine scores round 2 10-9 for Brown

Round 3

Hartley again takes down Brown, who in turn does a great job tying up Hartley, and the ref stands them up. Hartley gets another take down, and very little action as both fighters tie each other up. Ref stands them up again and Hartley gets a big double leg which seals the deal for him as the fight finishes.

Daryl Hartley wins via Unanimous decision.
