UWC: Redemption Fairfax, Virginia 10/3
![]() UWC Champ, Mike "The Hulk" Easton, defends his title against Chase "The Rage "Beebe UWC served up another incredible night of fights at the Patriot Center in Fairfax Virginia, where over 5000 mixed martial arts fans gathered to see 9 exciting bouts including two for UWC titles. Special guests in attendance included "Big" John McCarthy who joined UWC and UFC regular Mario Yamasaki in refereeing the event. Clay Guida and Jamie Varner were also on hand cornering fighters, signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans. The night opened with an exciting war between Freddy Assuncao vs Felipe Arantes that went the distance, with Assuncao winning a close decision. Rising star Kris McCray was suppose to be taking a step up in competition when the UWC imported undefeated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, Igor Alemida, to give him a challenge, but it was just another day at the office as McCray savagely pounded out Almeida in the first minute of round one. Local legends, the Baker Brothers, had mixed results for the night with Beau taking a beating in round one, and Kyle delivering one. Kyle's fight with Tommy Truex went back and forth right up until the end of round one when Truex fell to a back alley style beating and the fight is stopped. Baker wins a brutal victory that had the crowd on their feet. Still undefeated at 155, Baker was joined in the ring by promoter Marcelo Foran who announced he's looking for a challenger to face Baker in a lightweight championship in the near future. The night climaxed with two title bouts, that both went the distance. First, John Dodson looked certain to defend his 125lb belt when he almost finished Pat Runez in the second round, but Mario Yamasaki showed why he's one of the best refs in the business, by not stopping the fight, and giving Runez a chance to recover. Recover he did, and took the fight to Dodson for the last three rounds, squeaking out a split decision. Dodson did himself no favors, constantly back pedaling and allowing Runez to be the aggressor. The last bout, another title fight, had Mike "the Hulk" Easton defending his 135lb belt against veteran Chase Beebe. Round one was competitive, with Beebe getting Easton's back for most of the round. Easton reversed into the guard of Beebe at the end of the round and delivered a few good shots. Easton then kept the fight standing, and pressed Beebe to take the second round. The last three rounds had Beebe getting Easton's back, and working for a choke, and delivering sparse blows to Easton's ears. It wasn't enough in the eyes of two judges who sided with the champ giving him a split decision. - Jim "DC Books" Kirkland For photos, pbp and results check out the UWC : Redemption Thread HERE!
