Here is the table of defensive stats for the whole NBA thus far this season.

Looking at the difference table for blocks, rebounds and steals the following can be said. Phoenix are the 3rd worst team for being outrebounded (although they rebound more than any other team they also allow more than almost any other team). They are amongst the best blocking teams in the League. Regarding steals, they are neither here nor there. So yes, their defence isn't stellar but its not "shitty" either. IMO Shawn Marion should get defensive player of the year.

That's just your opinion. even though basketball is my favourite sport. football or "soccer" is still the most popular sport in the world.
